Sorry...another Disney question! Rent a car or just take the complimentary transportation?
We are pricing out a Disney vacation and DH would want to bring the carseat so we can rent a car. That seems like ALOT to carry around the airport with luggage and a toddler whose new game is "lets run away from mommy while laughing and screaming". So I told him lets just take the complimentary shuttle provided by the villa we are looking at. He said he doesnt want to have to run the day on the shuttles schedule, kwim. I can see his point. But i wanted to see what other moms did. So rent a car or shuttle bus it?

Are you staying within Disney?
Honestly every time we go...the most we have ever had to wait was maybe 5 minutes.
If you don't plan on going anywhere off property I don't think you will need it.

We didn't rent a car and if we had, we prob woudln't have used it!!
The shuttle buses were great. And when we weren't off to the parks or downtown disney on them, we were at the hotel relaxing and eating. No need for a car in my opinion!! And it saves having to lug a carseat around.
Others may tell you different, but i found that for us totally didn't need to!

didn't rent a car and never once wished we had while we were down there. The shuttles were fine, we had no problem and found them to be very convenient.

If you are staying on property I would use the disney transportation. If you are going to be off property I would definitely rent a car. Off property shuttles I have read over and over are unreliable. They also do not run as frequently as the WDW transportations shuttles run.
I would definitely bring the seat if you are going to rent a car. We brought a seat both times and thought it would be horrible but it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be.
Our 1st trip we brought it on the plane both ways - then we had a car seat bag that you could put it on your back like a back pack.
Our second trip we only used the seat going down - but gate checked it coming back since DD#2 didn't want to sit in it.
If you really don't want to be bothered you can check it with your bags - but I think it is probably safer (read less throwing around) if you gate check it.

We rent a car every time we go. Your room key gets you free parking at all of the parks. I'd rather set the schedule of when we come and go and sometimes those buses are PACKED. Also, if you want to eat at another resort, it's a PITA to take their transportation.
If you stay on Disney property, some of the hotels will have an Airline Check-In where you can check in for your flight, get your boarding pass and check your bags right at the hotel.

We stayed on site and really loved using their transportation. I think the maximum we waited was about 10 minutes but frankly if you have to go get a car, park and then use their open air buses from their parking lots you will take just as long to get somewhere as their transportation. I would save the money and the stress of schlepping a car seat too.

I completely agree! We rented a car and a carseat (through Hertz) when we went and it was soooo convenient! Ate dinner off the property a bunch of times, and were able to run to the food store and stock up on things we needed in the room for the week.

I think it depends on how old your kids are and whether you are staying on a Disney property.
Personally I'd want to have a car. I know we would want to check out Sea World and be able to go get take out or go to a place like Target with ease.

I agree! I want to be on MY schedule not public transportation's. Also we do go to other places eat, or want to take a quick trip to DTD etc.

We always stay on property and we always rent a car, before kids and the one time we've gone since Ann was born (we went in December when she wasd 18 months and brought the carseat from DH's car).

if you are staying on site then i don't see a need for renting a car. i love the buses actually.
and it also depends on if you are planning on going anywhere outside of disney.. and in that case then maybe a rental would be a good idea.

Keep in mind that if you are staying off site parking is not free though. It is only free at the parks if you are staying ON site. You only have to pay one time a day though if you are off site and park hop. You just show your receipt if you go to another park. But I think you are probably still better renting if you are off site b.c you can come and go on your own and the off site places aren't as reliable or as frequent as the disney buses.
