Sorry for the stupid question.....car seats?
I was talking to DH about what we would do about babysitting and it got me thinking.
Do I need to buy 3 car seats? One for me, DH and the babysitter (in-laws)?
That can be expensive.

Are you talking about infant seats? You can just buy the base. As for convertible, I am not sure.

For the infant car seat, you just need to buy an extra base for each additional car.
So you get one infant car seat (comes with a base).
Extra base for DH's car Extra base for sitters/ILs
For the convertible car seat, yes you would need a separate one for each car or else have to keep moving them each time (which I've heard is a huge PIA).

Thank you for explaining that...one more question. So that main part of the car seat would be switched around from each car?\
Later on when they are bigger, that can't be done?
What is the avergae price of a car seat? My firend said hers was over $300.00?
How long do they stay in the infant seat?
Sorry for all of the questions.

Some carseats are that $$
But you don't have to spend that much
Infant seats are usually between $100-$200 depending on the features. We used ours until DS was 10-11 months old.
We have two convertible seats. One is an Eddie Bauer seat that cost like $200 and goes into a booster eventually and up to 100lbs.
We have a Graco Comfortsport in DH's car, it was about $89ish and it goes to 40lbs, DS is almost 3 and still fits in it.
My parents have a Cosco Scenra in their car, I think it was about $40ish and goes for a while.
Point being, there are seats at all price points and they all have to pass the same safety requirements

The infant carrier can be switched from car to car. They just need a base to snap into.
Convertible carseats cannot do that. (you can but it is a PITA)
My DH , my mom and I all have carseats in out cars. You can get a really good one for $100. Graco has the comfort sport and it is highly rated.
Usually babies stay in the infant carriers until about 6-8 months depending on how heavy they are and how much you can carry.

Thanks for this info too! I have been wondering the same thing.
So did most of you register for an infant car seat and an extra base and then 1 convertible car seat, or more than one convertible car seat?

We registered for 1 infant car seat and an extra base for DH. But we did register for 2 convertible car seats. One was a Britax ($350ish) and the other was a Graco ($160ish). Your ILs can always buy one or you can pick an extra one up when they are ready for the switch. I didn't get 2 additional bases b/c someone told me they have one for me, if I need it. I also don't plan on going back to work until DC is about 5 mos, so he/she may be in the convertible by then anyway.
