Sort of a Personal Question..Tubes Related

Sorry if this is personal but I was wondering if anyone on here has elected to have their tubes tied.

Last week I posted about having an episode w/BC and my doctor took me off of them. So now, we have a decision to make....we are sure we don't want anymore children and I really don't want to be on the pill anymore and those are really the only full proof way of not getting pregnant. Both surgeries (tubal and the big V) are covered under insurance. I'm trying my hardest to convince my DH that he should get it done but like most men, he's afraid it's going to hurt (I KNOW TELL ME ABOUT IT DON'T GO THERE..YEAH LIKE CHILDBIRTH DIDN'T HURT - IN ANY EVENT). I'm just curious, if I elect to do it, what's involved, recovery, benefits, pro's cons etc. TIA

My sister had hers tied with her last child, during a c-section. The surgery is invasive and my sister said it was painful......... had she not been having a section, he would have gone for the V, because it is MUCH less invasive....

Good Luck....

That's what I was afraid of....this would be elective for me so I'd be going into the hospital just for this.

I'm really trying hard to convince him that it's easier and less painful for him.

He seems to think he's going to be castrated.

I don't have any personal experience, but from what I understand it is much more painful for a woman than it is for a man.. Why don't you go with him and talk to a dr. so he understands what the surgery is all about, and that he will still be "functional."

That's a very good idea. Thanks. I'll suggest that to him.

I'm almost positive, he'll do it but he's definitely afraid.

I'll have to find it but my Midwives gave me a pamphlet for my DH about a NO SCAPEL "V". Of course my DH found it as we were walking out the door to go to the hospital on the day my ds was born. I'll get you the #.

My cousin had it done 2 weeks ago. She goes back in 2 weeks to check to make sure it was successful. She said it was cake. She was at work the next morning. HTH

The only reason I won't get it done is that I don't want my "aunt flo" for 2 weeks a month! On the bc pill I get it for 2 DAYS.

Actually, I elected to have it because my husband didn't want to go through with the V as well. After my last son was born, we decided not to have anymore children. I went in, they put under anesthesia and I woke up in the recovery room about 30-45 minutes later. They told me to rest for about 1-2 hours and then we were on our way home. My doctor made the incision through the belly button so no scars and the healing time was maybe a day or two of no heavy lifting. Thats about it!

HTH!
