SOrt of TTC Related---Pre-existing medical conditions- Insurance question

Does anyone know what exactly is mean by "pre-existing medical conditions" not being covered when you switch insurances? I am starting a new job soon and we wanted to switch to my insurance once I start the job b/c the coverage is AWESOME, but I always remember hearing something with other companies about things not being covered if it is pre-exisiting......what does this mean?

as long as you have never had a lapse of more then 90 days

you should be fine

I just went thru this when my DH needed neck sugrey after me being at a new job for a month- everything was fine

you just need to get a certificate of prior coverage

Oh Ok. I have coverage now under my husbands plan and I am being treated for a few things (wont get into it) but when I get my new job, I would much rather go on my plan. There will not be any lapse at all b/c we had coverage with my husband's company. Will the conditions I was being treated for under my husband's plan, be covered when we switch to my plan?

It depends on the plan. Some plans don't cover you for any condition that you've seen a doctor for within 6-12 months on other insurance. This is the problem I am having now wanting to switch to DH's plan.

In general, as long as your coverage does not lapse for more than 63 days, the insurance company cannot deny coverage for a pre-existing condition. You can always check with the insurance company or look into the specifics of HIPAA.
