SO...want to hear about my flight out to CA?? long but worht the read!
On friday we flew out to CA for a wedding (we came back yesterday). Let me preface this story by telling you that we travel with Talia pretty often. Next month will be her 10th plane trip in her short 2 years of life. We have flown cross country - half way across the world..and like every long islander, to florida multiple times. My daughter is GREAT on planes - knows the routine and is an experienced traveler.
Our flight on friday was delayed over 2 hours...which is a nightmare with a toddler.
Talia was really good though - with one exception. She was screeching a bit...like that high pitched squel that kids let out when they are having fun.
Well this seemed to piss a bunch of people off. The people next to us didn't stop shooting us looks. That got me going - I was getting really upset. I mean
1) I was doing my absolute best to control her.
2) She wasn't running up and down the isle out of control - she was just sitting with us
3) its the middle of the day - what do people expect?
Well - there was also a woman a few rows back that was making a lot of comments and giving me dirty looks. I mean REALLY dirty looks...now I was really losing it. I told my husband that she had better not say anything to me or else I am going to lose it.
Well she did....after 100 dirty looks and comments I stood up to go to the bathroom with Talia. Talia squeled and the woman screamed - THAT WAS A doozie!! UGH!!!!
SO I went RIGHT up to her and said - excuse me? do you have a problem, because you haven't stopped shooting me looks and making nasty comments this whole trip. She gives me a BIG fake smile and says - Oh no, I just LOOOVE it.
Well I kept walking - I didn't want to have a problem on a plane of all places...but halfway down the isle I decided I wasn't done. SO I walked back...leaned over her (so I was IN her face) and said - you know, if you think it is hard for YOU to sit here and listen to a couple of squels, think about how hard it is for me to take care of a 2 year old for a 6 hour flight, and try to keep her quiet so she doesn't piss off people like you and on top of it I have to listen to you and get your dirty looks the whole time...ITS NOT VERY NICE IS IT???
Well...needless to say she didn't look up from her tv screen the rest of the flight - and so many people on the plane came over to me after (including the jet blue employees) to give me support. They all said that Talia was being so good and that the other woman should have known better. They all told me that they were so glad I opened my mouth to her - and boy I was too!!! I refuse to be a doormat and take that from people - I mean WHO does she think she is??
Anyway sorry for the loooong post...but I thought my fellow moms could appreciate it!
oh and PS...it shut the people next to us up too - I didn't get another look from them the whole trip!

good for you. I have been on both sides and what a beeyotch she sounds like. Some sympathy pleeeeease, especially with a delay.
I mean, I was delayed in Tampa for business a few weeks ago and this was like 6 hours!!!! I felt so bad for all of the parents on the plane, I am surprised we didn't have a mini- toddler revolt.

of course I always think of the perfect thing to say afterwards - but I should I have told her that SHE was making more noise than Talia - and she KNOWS better - Talia doesn't!!!!

I am so glad you did that. People are so rude sometimes.
I actually got inot ti with soeone at DIsney who thought that my son flipping out was an attraction and stopped to stare and then proceeded to tell his fmaily about it and laugh. DH and I were not happy and flipped on him.
If a parent is trying to control the child and not letting them run wild, why do people feel they need to comment and stare. I am sorry but every 2 yer old freaks at some point, no matter how well behanved and how grea tthe parents are.
Congrats for standing up to her

I'm glad you stood up to that loudmouth!
When my son was 6 and my DD was 11 months we flew non-stop from LA to Boston to see my sister. My DD was making noise laughing, clapping etc and some man sat behind me making comments and shooting looks at me.
When I got up to go to the bathroom I leaned in and asked the man if wanted me to flush her her down the toilet!!
I too got support from the others on the plane and the man shut up!
