So...whats the deal w/ tunafish? (the canned kind)
I HATE all fish and its shocking that i love canned tunafish.
Lunch lately has been REALLY hard and i am craving a tunafish sandwich.
Am i ok to eat this?

the issue is that tuna is one of a few different kinds of fish that is found to have an increased (and potentially unsafe) amount of methyl mercury in them.
so, you will potentially be ingesting a poison toxic to the nervous system.
obviously, the amount is small so it's at your discretion.

I agree with PP but also try to get Light Chunk or something like that, Albacore tends to have more mercury in it.
I love my tuna melts from Bagel Boss! LOL

My first OB told me tuna in moderation. My current OB has banned tuna all together

My old OB said no tuna b/c of the mercury - but my OB this time said it is okay once in a while NOT every week but like once a month or less.

confirm with your doc - but a craving fix - there's NOTHING wrong with that....

I'm the same way, hate all fish, love tuna fish sandwiches.
I never asked my doctor, I think I will tomorrow,. I just knew you should limit it.
Plus, I only like albacore (go figure!) and that is highest in mercury. I also ate alot of tuna prior to pregnancy, so I'm sure the mercury levels in my body are already high.
I have caved and had 2 tuna salad bagels this pregnancy. and they were worth every minute of it!

My doc said once a week is fine, but I try to keep it to once a month if I can. Definitely check with your doc
