So...when a wedding is cancelled

We have a Save the Date for my cousin's wedding. We heard through the grapevine that the wedding was off but it hasn't been confirmed yet.

What the best way to find out if this is actually the case? It's right before my 40th Birthday so we were thinking of going away but I'd really like to go to the wedding if it's on.

I looked them up on LIW to see if they were on the site. The bride is but hasn't said anything about it & hasn't posted for awhile. I feel horrible about it. Her profile has her in her wedding dress, etc.

It's my second cousin & we don't talk enough for me to call him. I've never called his mom. I'm afraid if ask my mom to call will look like she's looking for gossip.

Call the catering hall and ask if they have availability on that date?

It's really a sticky situation, sorry.

I would have my mom do the digging for me.

If you want to be really sneaky, you can call the catering hall (or even some vendors) and see if that night is booked.

There's no one else you can ask?
I don't think its rude, say you have another even that you need to plan for.

Re: So...when a wedding is cancelled

You're 40 ???????
Did you make some kind of deal w/ the devil ??? - (can I get in on that deal?)

To answer your question, I'd have my Mom do the dirty work

My 2 cents...I agree...I would never ever think 40 (not that there is anything wrong with 40) but I would have thought 30.

Chat Icon okay okay back to the real post...

Ummmm....this is sticky. My first thing would be who is a part of the grapevine and are they reliable? And when is the wedding...if it really is off then they need to let people know.

I would have mom do it - in a creative non-gossipy kind of way. Put the pressure on her...it's your b-day for god sake! Chat Icon

Tough one...maybe you could have you mom call and preface with "look, Im not looking to pry but there are rumors flying around and I was just looking for the truth"

Re: So...when a wedding is cancelled

when's the wedding and how far away is the "deadline" from when you need to know so you can book other plans?

if we are talking just a few weeks, see if your mom could call and find out. otherwise, maybe give it some more time. should invites be coming out soon?

How far away is the wedding?

Can you just plan your vacation for a later date (the next weekend), in case the info is inaccurate?

We were looking into going to Jazz Fest which is the weekend before & after.

DH's 40th birthday is 2 weeks before mine so we were thinking we could go away in the weeks between.

If Jazz Fest is both weekends, I would just plan the trip for the weekend the wedding is not planned for. If the wedding happens, you are all set. If it isn't then you have a free weekend.

That is so weird, I was looking into Jazz Fest too. Isn't that cute?

I say tell mom to do the digging. She's good at that sort of thing.

And no, she doesn't look 40. Take it from me, I've known her since she's 30!

I have seen Barb in person and she doesn't even look 30! Chat Icon I want what is in her water!

Oh, I would call the catering hall- I am sure if you checked LIW you could find out where they booked the hall. That was the first thing I had to cancel when I called off my wedding. Chat Icon

Re: So...when a wedding is cancelled

I think calling the catering hall or the church or something to that effect is a good idea.

Welcome to 40. Don't you wonder how the hell that happened? In the blink of an eye - I swear.Chat Icon

Re: So...when a wedding is cancelled

When is the wedding......If it's a bit away yet I would hold off a bit. A lot can change. If it's soon or you want to make other plans I would have your mother do it or maybe e-mail her to see how things are going. After all you were/are invited to her weding so you must know eachother. Sorry that was not how I ment it. Let me try again.......How about calling her or sending an e-mail asking her how her holidays were and how things are going. It opens the door to her telling you.

Re: So...when a wedding is cancelled

Why don't you call or have your mom call and ask about what time the ceremony is or something else related to the wedding. That way, it won't look like you are digging for info. Or ask where they are registered cause you want to send an engagement gift??

ITA. If you are to be invited as a guest, you should be friendly enough to be able to inquire. JMO
