Who here is familiar with "Aruchas"?
They are the little fried corn fritters.

Mama (That's what we called grandma) used to make them for me a couple of times a week for lunch. She would pick me up everyday so I could have lunch at home (across the street) and then take me back to school.

Boy do I miss her.

P.S. She didn't allow us to call her abuela. When we did her response was always "yo no vuelo!" She was very fiesty.

I dont know if the spelling is correct. my buela would make them with meat in them and shape them like torpedos.

There is a Spanish restaurant called La Lechonera in Brentwood. The food is really good, and you can get take out.

Re: Spanish Girls' cremita spinoff

I often visit La Lechonera before I visit the Entemann's bakery. But sadly, they dont have mofongo. Down the block on suffolk avenue is another restaurant called "Mi Tierrita". Its a colombian restaurant and they also have another location in hempstead. I find their food to be VERY authentic and down right yummy!!!

Where is la Cubanita? Is that the place in Deer Park?

La Cubanita is on 5th ave right before La Lechonera I think. Right on that strip. There is also another Cubanita II in Deer Park off Bay Shore Rd.
