Spanish Speaking People
How do you translate Tonto??
DS says it all the time, and I think its a bad word, but DH swears it means something like silly. Google translates it to Idiot which I dont like at all, but I am hoping its one of those words that the meaning gets lost in translation.
TIA

Re: Spanish Speaking People
I've always used it as "stupid", but I've also heard it being used for "crazy"

Re: Spanish Speaking People
I dont think its a bad word like a curse or anything. I always used it in the context of "fool" or "dummy"

Re: Spanish Speaking People
dumb or dummy
Not as bad as "stupid" or "idiot", not as innocent as "silly".
That's how I translate it.

Re: Spanish Speaking People
VERY common among kids in Spain -- much nicer than the words their parents use.
And Argentine Spanish is similar to Castillian so I wouldn't think it was bad for Ryan to say, no.
Actually parents would practically coo to their kids "Ayyyy, que tonto mi niño!! Qué guapo eres!!" and things like that...

Re: Spanish Speaking People
I was taught in high school spanish that it meant dumb or stupid. WhenI was in Mexico, they used it to mean the same
Probably better to use a different word since it seems to be defined differently by region.

Re: Spanish Speaking People
It can be interpreted in many different ways. Depending your relationship with that person. It can mean stupid, fool, dummy, etc
