Speaking of Friends....Sorry, Long
So, as most of you know I was in an accident Monday. I spoke to my friend after and she recommended a body shop (had never gotten work done there, just close to my house), but I ended up having the car taken to a different shop recommended by a different friend who had gotten his car repaired there and has known the guy forever. Anyway, yesterday I go to the shop to talk to the guy and he tells me that I should have my insurance co. pay for the repair and then go after Allstate to get their money back. Apparently Allstate is a little stingy with the $$$$. I tell my GF all of this today and she literally flips out saying that I never follow her advice, ask for it but never do what she says and that I shouldn't even tell my insurance co. I was in an accident etc. etc. Then all of a sudden she just says "I have to go, I can't talk about this anymore" I am totally dumbfounded here - I don't even understand where this came from and I'm sorry, I would rather make informed decisions as opposed to just taking advice from someone... I'm not even sure why I'm posting this except maybe to get some outside opinions regarding her behaviour...or maybe I am wrong.

It sounds to me like maybe in the past you have asked her for help-she has given you suggestions and then you go and do your own thing? Has this happened before? Thats my taKE ON IT FROM THIS STORY?

I agree. There's more to it then just this car accident (which I didn't know about but am glad you're ok).

See that's the strange thing...if she has good advice I follow it. I even said to her regarding the car repair, that I wish one of her friends was still in business that did my car years ago cuz he did an awesome job.

Even if you asked for her advice before and didn't take it her reaction seemed a bit harsh.
Dealing with an accident is such a headache and if there are anticipaetd difficulties with the insurance company then it's understandable that you might want to take a different path.
Maybe she has something else on her mind that she's not telling you and that's why she over-reacted?

I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps she feels you never take her advice and she is frustrated.
But honestly- you are doing the right thing. Sometimes you have to do rigth by yourself rather than acting to spare a friend's feelings.
Allstate is a little stingy with $. It is entirely your call if you want to get your insurance company involved. Be warned- your premiums may go up. You have the option of laying out that $ and/or just going after their insurance company.

Re: Speaking of Friends....Sorry, Long
I ended up going with my insurance because when I called Allstate, they told me a week to ten days before they would even look at the car. My insurance company said they would just collect from Allstate and send me my deductible back since it was totally the other guys fault. I don't actually feel bad about doing what I am doing, I just don't understand her reaction. I don't think I would get PO'd at someone for following different advice from mine.

I think you shoud talk to her. You really seem confused at her reaction and I would say just that. I am confused about your reaction. I think in the past you've given me good advice and this time i just did what I felt was right. In any accident you have to call your own ins. co. then they deal with the other co. thats why they get the big bucks

Re: Speaking of Friends....Sorry, Long
I'm taking a wild guess here, but maybe she jumped the gun and told her auto body guy that she was referring someone to him and now has to tell him otherwise?

Actually, I think that might be what happened. She told her friend who recommended this body shop that I would go there and now I'm not.
