Speaking of genetic tests
So I gave like a million vials of blood at my 12 week sono. half was for the hospital lab to run the prenatal panel, the other half was sent to this company GENZYME that does the genetic screens.
at 16 weeks they did the remainder of blood work for the AFP also sent to GENZYME.
Now i see alot of pple posting on here #'s of odds for trisomy, downs, etc. ..like 1 in 10,000 etc.
when i went for my visit this week they had the results, but its only given as Negative/positive.
so they told me everything tested negative for downs and spina bifida, etc.
I guess things are done differently in PA compared to here..labs and services used, whatever. But i kept asking them..werent there #'s??? everyone i know gets numbers..LOL
does this sound right? or should i just stop worrying already?

Re: Speaking of genetic tests
when I was given the results of the 12 week from my doc, she just said everything was great...no numbers. which I wondered about myself.
the reason I have the numbers is b/c the tech yesterday printed out a preliminary report for my to bring to my doc today, and the #'s from the NT were on there.
had they not been, and under the circumstances, I would definitely be asking my doc about it today (as I will about the AFP)
but if you have no other cause for concern (no soft markers etc) I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I would think it means if the chance for your age is say 1 in 10,000 your results were 1 in 10,000+ so "negative" and not worry about it!!

Re: Speaking of genetic tests
When I was given my results, I was not given numbers either just that our chances were extremely rare. When I went back for my followup, I never thought to ask for the numbers.

Re: Speaking of genetic tests
I was only told negative for everything as well. I don't feel the need to know the numbers. I won't really know what they mean anyway! I just like hearing that the baby is healthy and that's all I've ever heard.

I was only told my results were normal, I didn't ask for #'s and they didn't give me them.
