Speaking of intervention.... An update on my friend in Vegas.

I'll just give you a little bit of the story in case people don't know it.

My friend who lives in Vegas started doing Heroin. She had 2 beautiful kids and sadly the drugs took over. She disappeared for about 2 years and finally last year she called me. She was back living with her parents who had custody of her kids and she had been clean for like 3 months. They had a family wedding here in NY and she came to stay with my husband and I with her two kids. She was suppose to call me when she got home and never did. I called the house and found out that while she was here she started using prescription drugs and got kicked out of the house. Of course she went back to the street and picked up Heroin again.

I actually started to fill out the application for intervention.

Here's the update: She called me. She called to tell me she has been clean for 8 and half months, with the help of Jail. She was arrested in Colorado for a warrant she had for shop lifting. Right now she is clean and said she feels great. She is doing it for the right reasons now. She said last time she thought about the drugs every day Now not at all. She is going to 2 meetings a day, has a sponsor and is about to start her 12 steps. She has to work on being able to see her kids. She misses them.

Her mom and stepdad are getting divorced. Her stepdad let her move back in with him (he was at the hospital the day she was born and raised like his own) She is SO grateful to him.

I love her like she is my sister we have been friends since 5th grade. I will always be there for her, however I'm going in to this slowly. I don't want to be hurt again. I hope and pray she stays clean. In January as long as everything continues on the right track I will be going to visit her.

That's really great to hear!! I hope it lasts! And I don't blame you for wanting to keep your distance for a while!

Good for your friend. It sounds like she's on the right track and she has good people there for her
But I see why you are skeptical.
I have had a similar situation with a friend. They will lie to cover up their drug use.

that is great news. I think you are a great friend for wanting to be there for her and a smart person for protecting yourself at the same time

What a great update! I hope your friend continues to do well. She's lucky to have family and friends behind her. I wish her all the luck in the world.
