Special ed. teacher gets 90 days for sex with 15 year old
A Queens special education teacher who was busted after videotaping herself in a sex romp with a 15-year-old boy was sentenced today to 90 days in prison.
Christine Williams, 42, was a fifth grader teacher at PS 80 in Jamaica until she was caught in the illicit romp with the student, a pal of her stepson.
She admitted to Queens Supreme Court Justice Richard Buchter that she had sexual contact -- on two occasions in January and February 2010 -- with the teen.
Williams' teacher license was terminated, according the prosecutors.
"She has disgraced herself -- the children deserve a better role model," Judge Buchter said.
Williams pleaded guilty to statutory rape and will have to pay a $1,000 fine, serve 10 years probation, enter a mental health program and register as a sex offender.

Nope. It would also be splashed all over every headline.

Not only a 5th grader, but a special ed student? 
I missed the question when I first read the post. Nope., I don't think it would be 90 days in jail and I agree with Jill that it would be everywhere.

It wasn't a fifth grader, she was a fifth grade teacher. The kid was 15 and a friend of her sons. I don't think he was special ed.

Jeeeeeeeez, I'm sorry. I guess that's what I get for reading it and running out to lunch.  Still, 90 days is laughable. And I maintain that if it were a male teacher and a female student, everyone would be in an uproar.
ETA: And it was one of her stepson's friends?

A teacher is not to have sex with a 15 year old even if the kid is a genius and even if the teacher is 20. I'm not sure if anyone here is saying that it matters that the kid was 15 & not in special ed. but this is a crime either way. I don't know the sentencing structure or exactly what section of the penal code the charges came under but I will assume that she will have a long probation period and that she'll be a registered sex offender. I think that a male teacher would have been treated differently AND I think the lack of media attention is sort of because Jamaica does not get the attention that the fancy neighbrohoods do. I do NOT like that idea but I am calling it as I see it. Yes, I realize there are nice areas within Jamaica. I know the area. Maybe the case will get some more attention in the next few days.

She is a sex offender. Plain and simple! It does not matter about the media attention to this case. It should not matter in term of justice.
A male teacher sleeping with a 15 yo female student would go to jail.
A 15 yo male student is not MORE mature than a 15 yo female student. They are BOTH 15 yo.
She should have gone to jail.
