Speech Evaluation
DD has her speech evaluation next Thursday. We are using Marion Soloman. I'm a little nervous. I just want her to be the way she is for us and I'm afraid with a new person coming in she might not do much and then DD be diagnosed with god knows what. I'm sure it will be fine. I'm just wondering if anyone else had the same fears.

Re: Speech Evaluation
I would not worry about it. They are not going to give any kind of diagnosis anyway...the most that will happen is to say that yes, she qualifies for speech services. If for any reason there were question as to other potential problems (but doesn't sound like there are) they will maybe recommend an additional eval..I'm not quite sure though.
Kids are usually pretty good during these evals and warm up eventually. A lot is really play based too which helps. And if for ANY reason you feel like your DD is not being herself and won't do any of the things she normally does for you, just express that to the evaluator-you can always reschedule for a day when she's more herself...
Good luck and do NOT worry too much!! It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought, the evaluator(s) were so friendly and I remember DS was pretty much himself that day

Re: Speech Evaluation
We use Marion Salomon too and we liek that agency a lot.
The Therapists know that a child will be different. They have done this so much and with so many kids. I wouldnt worry they will think anything like that. They totally get it and will work to help your child open up to them at the same level he would open up to you.
My Eval therapist asked a million times "is this how he normally is"..." Is this something he can do normally" etc. They take your word for a lot of it too.
eta- the sppech therapist is ONLY looking at speech too.

Re: Speech Evaluation
Right now, my DS is very attached to me and he is also a little shy, so he wasn't really his normal self during the evaluation. However, after a little while, he warmed up to the evaluator and did better than I expected. They do rely on a lot of what you report to them too, though. When we saw the written eval, I noticed there was a lot of info included that she stated were thing that we told her.
