Speech Therapy For My 21 month old.
My son's pediatrician gave me a number to call for speech therapy and I plan on calling soon for DS. Can you please tell me what to expect.
When I called today the woman just took down all my information and said that someone else would be contacting me. She was kind of short with me (not sure if I called her at a bad time) What do they actually do? Do they come to your home, how long is it, are you participating in the speech therapy? I appreciate all the information you can give.
Thanks

Did you call Early Intervention or a speech therapist?

If its through Early Intervention they will call you and set up and Evaluation. The Evaluator will come into your home, and "Play" with your child. They have a checklist of things they go by and will ask you a bunch of questions as well. If your child qualifies, another meeting his held (IFSP) and at that meeting they go over the schedule and who your therapist will be.

yep...
also, if your child qualifies, the extent of his speech impairment will determine the amount of service (i.e. how many times per week and for how long). the evaluator evaluates your child at the first visit and the test scores will determine eligibility or not. the moms on the special needs board will be full of info. for you as well as myself and other special ed. teachers on the Teachers board. GOOD LUCK!
