Sperm Count Question....
Hi girls! Remember me? Another question....Trying to make sense of DH's results (which i picked up from the dr yesterday)
Now, his motility and morphology were normal, and his count was 12mil...NOW, here's the question, it said normal volume is above 2ml and his was 4 ml....
so let's say one guy's count is "normal" with a count of 24 mil and he deposits 2 ml .... isn't that the same thing as my dh "depositing" 12 mil at 4 ml (which would be 48 mil as well)?????? So doesn't that technically make the count not low if the volume is significantly high??? Can anyone help?

Re: Sperm Count Question....
The majority of sperm "volume" is the fluid and secretions the glands make to coat the sperm.
Many studies actually show no correlation between sperm volume and getting pregnant and dont think it needs to be measured.
It doesnt affect count.
Also...I dont think honestly 12 mil is that low. Its low but not toally unachievable.....
We had some IUIS where DH's count was a little higher then that and my Dr was thrilled with that count.
Some men has les sthen 1 mil count and they still do IUIS....
So If your Dr is talking this is low...I would question seeing a urologist to see if theres something ( vitamins) he can take to maybe increase the count.
Edited- because I read your post wrong at first.

Re: Sperm Count Question....
What Donna said is correct - it's not the volume it's the amount of sperm in the fluid.

Re: Sperm Count Question....
I get what you guys are saying, BUT, wouldn't you think it was still good to have extra volume because there has to be atleast some extra sperm in the extra fluid....even if it isn't as equal....get what i'm saying?

yes I understand what your thinking. But no thats not the case at all. The volume like I said is not actual sperm, but fluid that carries the sperm. It doesnt really do anything. Sorry

Re: Sperm Count Question....
you would think it works that way but it doesnt. My last IVF, DH was impressed with the volume in the cup and it turned out to be the worst count ever.

but even if this logic was right (which its not)
a count of 24mil in 2ml would be equal to 48mil in 4ml, so therefore your count would be worse 12mil in 4ml would be equal to 6mil in 2mL. But it doesnt matter, because volume has NOTHING to do with the count.
Now on the plus side, I dont think 12mil is such a bad count. Good luck
