Spin-off: Buying a car off lease
How many people have done this and have been satisfied?
I have a 2010 Mazda CX9 and overall am pleased, have had no issues. Once the check engine light came on but this was due to the gas attendant not putting the cap on all the way.
We bring it back next summer and I suspect I am going to be slightly over my mileage, unless I can bring it back a little earlier.
I love the idea of getting something new again (even the same vehicle, maybe different color), but then I also like the thought of being able to eventually just pay it off and not have a payment for a few years.
I also know a couple of people who started to have major issues with their vehicles as soon as they bought it off lease.

Re: Spin-off: Buying a car off lease
We are debating this very issue right now. What we are pretty much agreed on is it depends on the car we choose. If it's a high end luxury vehicle, we are going to lease. We have owned them before and when things start to require repair, it is very expensive. We feel if we go that route, leasing is better because you dump the car before things go awry from wear and tear.
My other car is a Nissan. While I won't go as far as to say its inexpensive to repair it, its far less than my other car. If we decide to go with say a Maxima this time, we will buy it. Then I also won't have to worry about the mileage situation.

Buying my Maxima off my lease. Also buying an extended warranty.
I love that car and I can see being happy with it for years.
Not buying the Elantra off the lease. I think the car is good but not long term for us.

Thanks for your replies.
I also don't want to worry about the mileage situation so much anymore, and want to be able to be more flexible with the amount of driving I do.
I also worry about money in general, and if something were to happen, maybe it makes sense to just have this car, work hard to pay it off, vs. taking on more debt.
