Nope. Your salary or wealth doesn't impress me at all - I know some real morons and some really unethical people who are making boatloads of money and they don't rank highly in my book at all.

What impresses me is intellect, ethics, ambition and drive and the strength and courage to pursue your dreams, whether that is to become the owner of a multi-billion company, or an attorney for a non-profit.

Re: spin-off-making 'good money' [poll]

no no and no.

i know some real winners Chat Icon who have a very high income and some of my true, good friends make next to nothing. and vice versa.

money just does NOT matter.

plus a lot of people i see at work make their $$ through not-so-legal means... that definitely does not impress me in the least!

so i just can't judge someone that way.

Do I think "more" of someone if they make good money? No.

There are plenty of wealthy people that I have zero respect for.

I usually don't judge someone based on one thing like a degree, or salary, or car, etc.. It's always a combination.

I'm not saying I don't judge people because I do. I'm not perfect.

Ditto!

I don't make assumptions about anyone based on money. That does not impress me at all.

money doesn't make a difference to me either way.

i don't think "higher" of someone who has money, education or not.

money doesn't buy class, morals, character, kindness, true friendship, integrity, honesty, or just about any other great chacteristic that i look for in a decent human being.

i don't think less or more of someone whether they have money or not or whether they have an education or not. i'm all about the person and who they are vs. what they have.

Well said !! ITA

not having a degree doesn't = being uneducated
having money doesn't = being rich

I know quite a few people with a formal education, degrees etc. that don't know their azz from thier elbow and I know some people that have a lot of money but are poor in most other areas of life.

What makes an impression on me is what you DO as a person not what you have hanging on your wall or in the bank.

I agree with this answer. It is WHO the person IS that impresses me. NOT where you went to school or your profession/how much money you make.

There are people that may not have a degree but have the knowledge to have extremely well paying jobs. Most of the traders in the Stock Exchange don't have their degrees. They have been working there for years and have their Series 7 licenses. I think hard work no matter what field your in and dedication can get that great paying job. I have the same respect for hard working people whether they have a degree or not.

Re: spin-off-making 'good money' [poll]

the armchair sociologist in me is fascinated by the wide array of perspectives....

As I inarticulately stated earlier, and Mrs PJB2007 and drpepper318 expressed more accurately and succinctly, I couldn't care less about money. Doesn't impress me at all, and I don't judge people based on their wealth. (I've actually noticed some wealthy friends and associates being caught off guard by that Chat Icon)

I also don't judge people based on their education level... I will admit to judging people if I think they don't seize opportunities available to them to further their career (by training)... bluntly becuase I suspect laziness.... I also whole-heartedly believe that if a person can afford it, and has the opportunity to educate themselves more, they should do it... just for the sake of self-enrichment... becuase it is a wonderful experience.

I guess one of the reasons I brought this up, is becuase I don't link career and $$ to education in my mind. I see the 3 as independent aspects of a person's life. sure, many careers require a degree... but the 'major' a person has is very different from their education. I (naively) hope people go to school to learn, not solely to improve career options.... after this thread, I suspect I'm dead wrong with that assumption.

A prior poster brought up bill gates... who is obviously quite well-read and self-educated. I thought it was curious, though, beucase he's also one of the richest people on earth. (why did a wealthy person have to be the example of a person who is self-educated and brilliant?) Personally, I have a very high regard for him (his knowledge, creativity, intellect, and charitable work)... but it has absolutely nothing to do with his wealth. not impressed by $... Personally, a less outrageously wealthy person would have clicked better with me as an example of someone who is self-educated and intelligent.... my mom comes to mind. You would be stunned by what she knows about greek and roman mythology.... (no college degree)

thanks for responding everyone Chat Icon I love ethics/sociology threads Chat Icon
