Spin-off to entertaining newborns
DS is only 2 weeks old, so he really is only awake a couple of hours a day. I try to to just talk to him when he is awake so he can get to know me, my face, voice, etc. I'm going to start reading him to him now too after reading some other posts.
My question is, when do you start to introduce other stimulating activities such as play mats, DVDs, etc?

You could put him on the play mat now, use it for tummy time.
As for DVDs, I think we put TV (Jack's Big Music Show and Sesame Street) on around 3-4 months or so

you could see if your DC is interested in a mobile soon. i think DD started to pay attention to hers, though very briefly, around 3 or 4 weeks.
