Spin off to Graco® Nautilus™ 3-in-1 Car Seat?
How old was your DC when you switched them from the Convertible car seat to the Graco Nautilis? How much did they weigh and how tall were they?

Re: Spin off to Graco® Nautilus™ 3-in-1 Car Seat?
I am about to switch soon, I just havent purchased my new seat yet (although I will be getting the Nautilus). DS is 25 months but he is a big kid. I am anticipating him to be nearly 40 lbs which is the reason for the switch his Roundabout only goes to 40lbs
ETA: We go to the Dr tomorrow but I would guess him to be about 38 inches tall

The Nautilus IS a convertible seat.... Do you mean when do you convert it to a booster?
We don't have the Nautilus, but we switch DS to a booster on his 6th b-day, and he was around 43" or so.

So then DS would stay in the Britax Boulevard until he is 6 years old? DS will be 2 1/2 on 2/1/10. He is 30 lbs and 38 inches tall.

I have the same question.
If the question means from rear facing to Forward facing, ideally 2&30lbs (1&20 is the bare minimum!)
If the child is already forward facing, keeping them in a harnessed seat as long as possible is ideal, yes even until they're 6 or so, until they reach the limits of the seat by height (usualy tops of ears at the top of the seat, check the manual) or weight (for a seat like the Boulevard or even the Nautilus, this is 65lbs)
A child isn't ready for a booster until they are mature enough to sit in it properly and the belt fits them properly in it, the bare minimum to move to a booster is 4&40.

Yes, assuming DS is within the limits of the Boulevard. DS is on the lighter side, so he was well under the 65lb limit, but he was reaching the height limit. Plan on keeping DS in his Boulevard until at least age 5, if not longer. He still has 35lbs to go.

Re: Spin off to Graco® Nautilus™ 3-in-1 Car Seat?
I got the Graco Nautilis b/c the Britax I got only went to 40 pounds (stupid error on my part).. ideally, I should've gone from infant seat to the Graco Nautilis since the Nautilis is a convertible as well.
As far as I'm concerned the Britax was a huge waste.

The Nautilus is not a convertible, it does not rear face. It is a Combination seat which goes from a harnessed, forward facing only seat to a booster.

Duh- I'm a tool- you're right.
Anyway- I switched DD to this seat when she was about 35 pounds.

That's what I plan on doing....snugride right to Graco nautilis. My 1 year old is 19 lbs and 27". I'll keep her rear facing until she's 20 lbs. Save myself the $$ on the extra car seat. She's in two different cars everyday, that's way too much money on car seats!

Ideally, you should keep your DD rear facing as long as possible. 1&20 is a bare minimum recommendation, with 2 & 30 being the newer recommendation.
The reason for this is that their cervical vertebrae have not finished calcifying. Their heads make up a much larger percentage of their body weight than an adult's does. In a crash, a forward facing child, the head snaps forward and stretches the spine. The spinal cord can only stretch approximately 1/4" whereas an infant/very young toddler's spine can stretch up to 2". In an adult, the crash forces are spread out much differently than a child's, and they are still susceptible to whiplash. In a rear facing position, the crash forces are even spread out across their body and the seat "cradles" them.
For a real life example of what can happen in a moderate crash to a toddler, visit www.joelsjourney.org and read Joel's story.

Re: Spin off to Graco® Nautilus™ 3-in-1 Car Seat?
Ella is 3.5 and we put her in it a few weeks ago. She was previously in a Britax Roundabout (she's petite at 28lbs, and 37in). She could have stayed in the Britax but we needed seats for Al's car, so I figured I'd get something that would grow with her.
Erik is now in the two roundabouts, and Ella will have two Nautilus.
