spin-off to manual transmission - Can you drive a motorcycle?

I think that riding my bike made me better at driving a standard car - it's easier to 'shift' and clutch on a bike but it made me learn the concept better.

I have my motorcycle license, but I sold my bike (CBR600) on my 30th birthday, I decided it was too dangerous for my taste here on LI.

Re: spin-off to manual transmission - Can you drive a motorcycle?

I used to ride dirt bikes when I lived in Florida. I have ridden numerous quads. I have never driven a street bike though. I don't have a motorcycle license though and my wife would kill me if I ever got one.

I have been a passenger on a motorcycle but I have never driven one on my own. I tried once with my husband behind me on the bike and I couldn't get the coordination together to make it work. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I know how to drive a bike (street and dirt) but I never got my license.

I learned on DH's Ninja 500R. If I ever owned a bike, it wouldn't be any bigger than that.

Re: spin-off to manual transmission - Can you drive a motorcycle?

That has been a dream of mine since I was 14. Riding a motorcycle!

So I got a "moped" when I was 14 for 2 weeks then my parents took it away stating it was too dangerous with cars. At 18, I was able to bring it back to the table but lucky for me my sister's friend had a motorcycle accident, broke his wrist.... in short... NO MOTOCYCLE FOR YOU!!!!!

Then in my mid twenties.....decided to to for it again. Again, at that time a series of local motorcycle accidents made the EX promise I would not get one.

Now with the baby... should I really risk my life with the car drivers who don't know that motorcycles are entitled to a full lane unlike a bicycle. Chat Icon Chat Icon I still would love too though.

Re: spin-off to manual transmission - Can you drive a motorcycle?

I'm dying to learn.

We are going to get our licenses together, and DH can get a bike first.

I can handle other rides, like mopeds, atv's. So I'm not scared.

My 4'10" sister just got her license. So if she can do it I can

I would love to, but I am too scared. I was on a motorcycle once when I was 16 and it scared the life out of me.

Oh and to answer your question... No, I don't know how to drive a motorcycle (though I can drive a 5 speed car), don't have much of a desire to learn but would consider riding on the back of one. DH wanted one when he was younger... He still does. I wouldn't mind if he got one.

DH got me motorcycle lessons for my birthday, but one thing kept coming up after another and I never got to go. I guess it'll have to wait until next year!

Re: spin-off to manual transmission - Can you drive a motorcycle?

DH wants a motorcycle in the worst way. He actually had one for a few days (long story) and has been a passenger a few times. I work in the auto insurance industry dealing with accident claims and injuries. Based upon what I do, DH will NEVER get one. I hate to be the wife that does not let my husband do something because I cringe when I hear that most of the time, but now that we have children, he is not taking the risk. Too many people are hurt or worse because of other drivers not paying attention.
