spin off to saving money

I know a lot of people said they bring lunch every day to work to save money. I too bring lunch almost every day, but I CANNOT get DH to do this. It drives me crazy, I know he is wasting so much money buying lunch every day. What can I do to get him to bring his damn lunch? Do I have to make it for him?

Re: spin off to saving money

I don't make it, but if we buy coldcuts and bread he will bring it to work and make it there. He won't do it in the morning, but this seems to help get him to do it.

Or maybe he throws it away there and I'm none the wiser...

Is there a reason why he won't?

I usually pack up DH's lunch when I am preparing mine I don't know if he would do that on his own.

I make my husbands lunch in the AM to make SURE he takes it. I make my lunch at night. I usually bring some sort of salad, a couple of V-8's, a Carb Watcher Yogurt, and some cheese sticks.

My DH will eat Peanut Butter and Jelly for lunch, he dosent care.

I think it is a combination of things

1) He is too lazy/doesn't leave himself enough time in the morning.

2) All the guys he works with buy lunch every day and he doesn't want to feel left out.

3) he is one of those who doesn't want to eat the same thing every day. I am happy with eating a turkey sandwich every day.

He will bring leftovers sometimes, I guess because thats easy to just grab out of the fridge. I am thinking thats why maybe if I made him sandwiches he would actually take them?

My DH says lunch is for schmoozing so he cannot bring a lunch. I bring my lunch and eat it in my lil corner. I listen to Sirius and talk on LIF.

Me too...he just won't do it. I think in his office it's too nerdy...he likes being popular..I think it's because he never was popular in school.

UGH! DH and i have this same argument ALL the time! he refuses to bring lunch from home! he says he needs that time out of the office everyday to unwnd. he also works with a bunch of his friends from college, so i think its hang out time for them too Chat Icon Chat Icon
DH also will usually go starbucks at lunch, AND we go there every night usually to meet up with friends- so thats like $10 a day at least on drinks from there...
its nuts! sorry i can't be more help- i've pretty much given up on it- i think until his friends stop going out to eat, he won't... i'm hoping it will change when they all start having kids and money is tighter....

If DH would rather buy lunch I'm not going to force the issue. He has the right to do so. I would feel like his mother if I did.

SAME situation here...
I actually prefer to bring in my lunch but for some reason DH refuses...Chat Icon It's male bonding time with the guys at work I guess...even though one other guy does bring in food.
I used to bring it up a lot, but now I've realized...I can't make him.

Does he have a mircowave at work? I make ziti/stuffed shells/chicken and rice on the weekend and make packets to bring in during the week. I also bring in TV dinners. It give me more variety, since I really don't like sandwiches.

Re: spin off to saving money

I make DH's his two sandwiches after I clean up from dinner. He actually insists on it & he could eat for free everyday (in the restaurant business) but opts to take his lunch. When I was on vacation this summer, DH still made his lunch

I made my own every evening also.

We both used to bring lunch, but now just him. I buy bc I shouldn't really be eating cold cuts everyday (preggo) so I buy a salad. I'm too lazy to make a salad and bring it in, plus I change my mind every 5 minutes about what I want to eat.

Although any snacks that I have during the day I bring with me. Usually an apple, banana and a granola bar.

Re: spin off to saving money

my Dh buys food- when he has time

but he works thru dinner- so it's just easier for him to order from the deli or there is a small cafe in his building

Re: spin off to saving money

we both bring lunch and DH took my lead with it.. We make it in the morning, but when I first started doing it- I would make my lunch the night before-- so in the morning I could just grab the bag out of the fridge and not have something else to do in the morning.

Since I started making DH's lunch, and putting it in a bag, on the counter every morning next to his keys, yes, I've managed to get him to bring it to work. It's saving us tons of $$ per week, working in NYC. At least $80 between the two of us.

We both take our lunch to work. I usually make it the night before.

If we have snacks like carrots or fruit, I put them in separate baggies at the beginning of the week and we pack our own lunch bags in the morning. It's so much easier to grab and go in the morning when everything's all prepared.

Re: spin off to saving money

We are the opposite in my house. I won't bring lunch. If FH makes it for me I dump it or "forget it". I am such a picky eater, I never know what I want until I'm actually paying for it, so to me it is a waste to bring my lunch, b/c by the time lunch comes, I don't want that tuna sammy anymore.

When you figure it out please let the know! My DH can't seem to do it! Whenever he finally decides to buckle down, I buy everything, prep it for him and he still doesn't bring it or eat it!!!
