Spin-off to stride rite Q (when to get walking shoes)
My 9-month-old DD is walking with one of those push toys. She'll take some steps holding my hand, and is taking 1-2 solo steps before stopping to crawl. She's usually barefoot or in socks with grippers.
Should I be getting her good walking shoes now? Yesterday we took her to a pumpkin patch and I put her in boots from Old Navy just so she could stand amongst the pumpkins for a few mins and take some pictures. They're soft-soled, so obviously not supportive enough to stand/walk in. Is it time to take the plunge so she has something to wear when we go out?

With my DS, I kept him in "robeez" type shoes until he started walking FT. He was 10.5 months when we bought him his first stride rite walking shoes. IT was hte day after he did laps aroudn my house for the first time. He had been walking ever since.

as soon as DD was "really" walking, we bought her first pair of walking shoes. It was really not even a week after she was taking those first few steps. Once they have the confidence to take those first few steps, it just a matter of days before they take off

They told me at the ped to wait until she was walking 'full time'- not just a step here or there. For us though, she went from one step to full on walking in like 1 day. So we didn't have much time!

I got DS' right after he started walking full time.
He didn't wear them though for about a month - he'd scream every time I put them on. He wore his level 1 Stride Rite shoes in the meantime.

Re: Spin-off to stride rite Q (when to get walking shoes)
We bought ours walking shoes when he was able to walk for a distance holding our hand.
AS we were buying the shoes, he got up & walked SOLO across the entire stride rite store. It was very touching!
Honestly, we skipped over the phase 1 shoe & went into the phase 2 (running) shoe... and it was a great decision. He walked more easily in those shoes (than barefoot).
