Spin off to the child harness
So Jennifer posted about Disney and I had heard something about Disney and wondered if it was true or not...
I was told that Disney has cameras in the sidewalks and that they can see everyone's feet so that if a child is missing they ask the parents what shoes the child was wearing. Then check the cameras to find the child. Anyone know if this is true or not

Re: Spin off to the child harness
I have NEVER heard that. That's really strange.
And I've read a lot about dsney and tips on leeping your children safe and that has NEVER come up.
Honestly I can't imagine that really working..there are so many people, so many little feet, I can't imagine that working out. But I know they have cameras. On my first trip to disney I was so amazed. This kid ahead of me in line got an ice cream cone, but it fell over, within 5 seconds someone had come out form ehind a hidden door and cleaned it up and the counter lady gave him a new cone. I was like WOW

Re: Spin off to the child harness
DH is convinced there are cameras that can track everyone the second they get into the park. We were on a Keys to the Kingdom tour -- the kind where you can ask anything and get a straight up answer - and the CM denied that.
Just to clarify -- I know there are cameras, I just don't think they track people like that.
The tour guide did say that in general the CM's are able to recognize a lost child and parent and get them reunited quickly. And also suggested teaching your child to go to CM's with costumes and name tags for help and not to accept help from a real stranger.
I have read where parents put their names and cell phone numbers in an inconspicuous place in case they are seperated.

They Do have cameras. There was something proposed once that you wear soem kind of device, like a GPS or an ez pass that identifies you, and then they are filiming you on rides and varous locations and then they cut it together and you can buy a DVD of you and your family on your trip.
A CM at disney was surveying us about it on our last trp

Re: Spin off to the child harness
I wouldn't be surprised.
There are cameras everywhere. I once heard that just about every inch of sidewalk in Manhattan is covered by one camera or another installed separately on buildings.
When I was in London last year, the only reason why they were able to identify the bombers was because there are thousands of cameras in the Tube alone, never mind all over the streets. they had their pics on Sky TV within hours.
A couple of weeks ago I was in Carnegie Deli and counted no less than 12 cameras I could see.
I'd be surprised that Disney didn't have this.

It is, but since they are filming you anyway. I kind of don't mind the cameras at WDW. It's private property, and it makes it a VERY safe place. I guess they might as well capitalize on what's already in palce. And with 70,000 people at WDW on any given day, I don't think annyone has time or interest to spy on ME

If it were a public place, I'd feel differently, but it's private property. it's not different than security cameras in the store. if they REQUIRED you to wear the device, I'd have a HUGE problem with it

Re: Spin off to the child harness
i think disney is pretty good about the child safety thing, but i don't think they would go as far as cameras for feet.

I never heard of that, unless it is new. And I worked at Disney World.
It is amazing some of the things they do to keep you safe, so I won't be surprised.
