Please be aware that there are also individuals who market themselves in every way as a "breeder" and are in fact, dealers. As much as you "research" where your puppy is coming from, research again. Even getting a listing from the AKC does not guarantee a good breeder.

This is VERY true. Before we got Arnold from Kent, we looked into buying an English Bulldog from a breeder. Well, I can't tell you how many breeders we came across that once we researched further turned out to be brokers.

Ugh, it was so discouraging. At any rate, we didn't go that route and instead got Arnie from Kent. I'm glad we did... I love my little mushy face!!!

In addition to what LIF posted, which is definitely well appreciated and a great start to getting good information, one of the most important things you can do as a buyer is interview them. Ask questions about how the breeding is arranged, are the parents living on premise, can they be shown...etc.

Brokers are a very shady part of the animal trafficking industry, and can be very difficult to find if you are purchasing out of state without visiting the breeder's home.

Brokers/Dealers are also shady because they can be plain con-artists and liars...representing themselves one way, when they are not.
