Re: Spin off to where you banked cord blood
I think with DS#1 initial cost was $1700ish $99/annual storage
DS#2 was $1500ish (deal for the second child) and I just made the cutoff for $99/annual storage - they went up to $125
CBR ( I get $250 coupons from them all the time - let me know if you want the code)
It seems like a lot, but we got 0% over 6 months. My MW also mentioned that we don't blink an eye about paying that money for auto insurance EVERY year, but this is a one time fee, for your child. Just like my auto insurance, I am hopeful (and happy if) I will never need it.

I had a couple of coupons for Viacord but it was about $2K initially and the annual fee is $125. Pricing is on their website along with promotional deals.

We used CBR and paid $3000 and it will be stored for 18 years. We preferred to do the lump sum payment and then not think about it for a long time.

even though it is $$$, there is so much science out there progressing as we speak so we dont even know all the benefits that may occur...we did it for about $1100 with CBR and need to pay about $125 a year for storage

Re: Spin off to where you banked cord blood
We used viacord with dd, the initial cost was around $2000 but they were giving a huge savings to employees of gyn/ob offices so we got to save more than half (so if you know anyone that works in an office it may be a good idea to investigate if they are still running this deal). the yearly storage is $125. It's totally worth it to us b/c there is so much ca in my dh's family. Also, when investigating companies make sure they use the closed system to collect/transfer blood, b/c when we were looking into it for our dh CBR didn't have a completely closed system (meaning the blood would be transferred at some point and exposed to air) and there is a law being passed (if not already) that all banks must be completely closed systems, which means CBR (and all others that aren't) will have to change over. Just some info. sorry so long.
