spinoff-- Breast Reductions
anyone recently have one?? My friend told me that they can mess with your milk ducts or something and can hinder breast feeding. I really want one-- but also do not want to have problems when I have kids.
With it being so hot and tank top season, I cannot take one more man looking at my boobs!!! I wear a jean jacket in 90 degree weather all the time.

gotch. I personally don't know so I can't say but my best friends sister had to get one two years ago b/c she couldn't take the back pain anymore. It also made her seem SO MUCH thinner. She always had to wear huge tops so they fit her chest but she was tiny under there! She said it was the best decision she has ever made. She finally fits in the cute little tops she could never wear before.

I hear ya, I always had that problem. I'm a 36DD now and I just got done BF my DD, but I'm usually a 36D.
I want to get a reduction but I BF and will again when I have my second child, and I also heard its very painful so I'm nervous!

Re: spinoff-- Breast Reductions
I am sooooooo pro-reduction, its not even funny!!
Ok, mine are still decent-sized...but they're where they belong (for 23-yr-old boobies), and my belly button no longer has neighbors. Hacking off those huge knockers was the best decision I've ever made for ME.
IMO, whether or not I can breastfeed was a chance I was willing to take. Even "normal" women can't breastfeed 50% of the time. I couldn't imagine living with the pain and discomfort when they swelled with pregnancy. I was wearing a 40DDDD(G) at the time, and I weighed about 135 lbs. It just wasnt a good time.
eta: I have a large frame, so I didn't want to reduce to below a D-cup. My whole family is large, but I was BY FAR the largest. I don't want to turn this into a big breastmilk/formula debate, but it won't be the end of the world for me if I can't BF. I actually don't plan on it. I wasn't breastfed, neither were my siblings....we're all honor students and have no (obvious) defects.

I had one a while ago. I was a 36DD and was reduced to a c cup still big but not terrible. They were fine until I had kids now they are big again . I am trying to lose weight ( 10 pounds) so they will get smaller again
Doc said there is always a chance you cant BF after haivng one but I chanced it . I didnt even attempt to BF because of it,

Re: spinoff-- Breast Reductions
my prom dress was a size 20 to accomdate the girls. I almost didn't go to the prom because there was a problem with my dress alterations....the seamstress took in the bodice as much as possible, but the girls were still spilling out
I was always self-conscious....and more often than not, I was disgusted with myself.

I certainly don't have the extreme that you did-- but I can totally relate. I thnk that if the danger is there with the breast feeding-- and considering I am 31-- I am probably better off waiting. But I really don't want to.. but, at least after breast feeding- I can get a little life too!

I had a breast reduction....... No, really I did!!
I don't believe it will mess with the production of milk.

Re: spinoff-- Breast Reductions
My best friend had one with great success and only mild scarring; she looked like Jessica Rabbit before...which I thought was gorgeous; but she's a ballerina and in addition to the back pain, she was getting passed over at auditions. She had one done...and now she's the lead dancer in New York's Momix Dance Company....
But I do think men stare at boobs/bodies regardless. When I worked at the city this time of year (and I have small ones) it's like the men have never seen a woman before! All the girls on the street get cat called, even though it's like 8:45 in the morning....

Re: spinoff-- Breast Reductions
I agree with Shorty- not a day goes by where I am not thankful for having it done- it's actually a pleasure shopping for tops and dresses now. My Dr. told me that there will always be a chance you can't BF, but that they do it in a way that causes minimal damage.

Re: spinoff-- Breast Reductions
I had it done and it was one of the best decisions of my life. I am 39 now and I had it done at 28 and they are perky Ds.
I was a 38DDD and now a 38D.
I went back last year and had some scar tissue removed but I was having some other surgery on them at the time so it made sense.
I have all milk ducts intact. I am able to breast feed according to my doctors. I will deal with it at the time if need be, but it was so minor of a concern to me. I was miserable, in pain and nothing fit me.
I too had a size 20 prom dress and I looked like I could topple over. People would comment about how small my feet looked in comparison.
Men will look at your boobies no matter what. I was at a wedding a few weeks ago in a very cleavage revealing dress with no bra needed and the men (friends of mine) were commenting on how great they girls were!
DH loves when they do that!
Oh and DH loves them too! But he loved them no matter what.
I have residual effects of back pain but I don't get the debilitating pain I used to have and the deep strap crevices.
The best is no bra needed in certain circumstances. I can wear a bra top from victorias. WOW!
If anyone wants a rec for my doc, let me know.

Re: spinoff-- Breast Reductions
Susan-- I'd love to get your doctor's name. It wouldn't hurt to have a consultation.
I mean-- I am a full 34D-- but I have a small waist and am much smaller on top. So to me-- I feel they are too big and I feel like I want to wear tighther tops-- so I look thinner, but then I am showing more boob-- even though it's hard to hide them.
I am just so sick of feeling self conscious. Plus, I do have a hard time with clothing sometimes.

Re: spinoff-- Breast Reductions
I had a breast reduction 5 years ago. I was very large like a 42H and went to a 42C/D. Before I had the surgery the doctor warned me that there maybe a chance that I won't be able to breastfeed and I wouldn't know until I tried it. There are so many factors that may affect the ability to BF - size prior, type of surgery, how long after sugery you have kids, etc....
I've done some research and it's totally one of those things you can't predict until you're in the situation. Some women never have issues BF after a reduction. I read cases where women were able to BF even after having a nipple graft (complete removal and repositioning of nipple). There were also cases of women who were not so successful BF with thier 1st child and had great experiences with the 2nd. I got alot of good info from... Breastfeeding after reduction site
When I had my son, I was able to BF a little but we had latching problems. I pumped for a 6 weeks, but I only got 4-6 oz a day. I hoping with #2, I'll have a better experience..

Re: spinoff-- Breast Reductions
My best friend had one a few years ago. She was a 38FF. She said that it is the best thing that she ever did. Now she is a C. although, make sure you go to a good Dr. she was not happy with her Dr. and is not happy with the scars that she was left with and thinks that they could be minimal if she had a better Dr.
It is a very painful process though. And, some insurance companies will not cover it unless you get a certian amount removed, so that's something you should check into also.
