Spinoff - taking DC's temp
When did you stop using a rectal thermometer and what did you switch to?
TIA

We still do rectal but I am thinking of buying that one that scans the forehead.

Re: Spinoff - taking DC's temp
I've always been a fan of the ear ones. For me, it's close enough. It's either normal, slightly high, or very high. I don't worry about the exact number. If you use 10 different thermometers, you'll get 11 slightly different temps anyway....

Re: Spinoff - taking DC's temp
I use the ear one. I said in the other thread, I can tell if they are burning up or slightly fevered or have no fever at all just by touching them. With my youngest being 2 1/2, I don't really need an exact temp. The forehead one is not infallible either, my SIL has it and has the same issues as I have with the ear scanner.

I went to buy a new one 2 days ago and was going to get the temporal lobe thermometer but the pharmacist said that they aren't that accurate. He recommended an ear one; it only takes one second to register the temperature.
ETA: My DD is 2 and flips when she just sees the rectal thermometer. She HATES it!

Re: Spinoff - taking DC's temp
I use the ear to see if there is a temp.
If there is, then I use rectal. The dr won't talk to me about temps on phone unless its a rectal one.
At hospital, they always do rectal.
