I would have said, "Well, clearly your son is old enough to unhook your bra, so that would be a clear sign to retire your booby."

I haven't directly but was indirectly. My DH was out buying formula for DD. The guy behind him commented on how expensive the bill was. DH joked yeah formula is expensive. The man had the nerve to tell him you shlould try breastfeeding, that's free really rudely. My DH being the nice person he is just said my wife tried and it didn't work out for us. People are azzes

this is how all of these things happen.

one person says something, another person says something about the first person and around and round we go.

the pick up things to sling at each other, not realizing that it's really NOT the objects that we hate/hurt us, but a means to an end to hurt each other.

it's silly. really.

People never cease to amaze me....I'm thinking I'd have to hope that my Mom was with us, because I would have had to hand DD to her to pull DH off the woman....so I could have a shot...Chat Icon

Good for you for not letting it ruin your day!!!

Chat Icon Wow - that is so incredibly rude. I can't believe that she actually came up to you & said that...it's so nasty Chat Icon

I've gotten crap from some extended family, coworkers, friends & acquaintances in the past, but IMO nothing that rude! I've heard it for BFing for "so long" (ds is only 7 1/2 months) & for wanting to shoot for a whole year of it. I've also heard it for going back to work & not staying home. And finally, people have made some nice comments about how my parents watch him 3 days a week for us while I'm at work. "They're retired & already raised their kids" - yeah well, they offered & never want to give him back when the day is over, so people need to buzz off.

Sorry you had to deal w/that Chat Icon Chat Icon

she had NO right to say that to shorty...I mean, who does she think she is

I woul NEVER go up to someone and say anything like that to them...once she opened her mouth, she needs to be prepared to take some backlash

I would've ripped her a new one

Chat Icon before this gets messy, I think Marie was referring to the "old enough to unhook bra" comment, NOT the fact that someone said something to me.

I guess the point of my story is that there's judgement on both sides. We often hear about the BFers that have to deal with comments, I just wanted to share that sometimes it's the other way around!

ooooo my god. It was funny, not actually judging. I could care less if everyone BF until their kids are 20 (ok, a little far fetched) please don't take offense to that.

wow, we can't even laugh at a comment anymore without everyone jumping the gun. I absolutely do not judge those who BF, I've stated numerous times that I was an absolute failure at it and have terrible guilt.

we'd had SUCH a nice day, I really didn't want to ruin it with some nutty mcnutterton.

i just let it roll off my back - what can you do?

The woman had a happy meal on her table...idk if it was hers or the child's, but is that pure and natural?!

Now that is hypocrisy!

this is so ridiculous.......no one there just judged anyone....the comment just made some posters chuckle.

And as a response to the comment that the woman had made to the OP....completely appropriate.

actually Devon you are proving my point.

it's NOT the you have a problem with breastfeeding per se, but to "retaliate" from a perceived insult, you pick up the nearest "weapon" which in the case of the joke was a child "old enough to unhook a bra" and hurl it at the person. (and I mean global "you" not you, Devon, or any other poster). I know it was a joke, and I don't really have any feeling about it...but it IS still an example of how we get threads out of hand by playing tit for tat (haha...again no pun intended) with the sole reason to get the better of one another.

anyway, I have a son and I am convinced he was BORN with the ability to unhook a bra Chat Icon Chat Icon

Seriously, I see nothing "awesome" about that. The woman was clearly in the wrong with her comments, but judging her for "extended" BFing is just as wrong, IMO.

I answered your sister...but you could read it too.

maybe you guys should sync your responses Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was making a point as to how threads get out of control, even if we don't necessarily CARE one way or another, arguments sometimes back us in to a corner/viewpoint that we don't necessarily exclusively believe, but for the better of our argument/defense.

I do not care at all how long someone bf's their kid but you bet your *** I would've said something, maybe about the fact that she was preaching to me about nutrition with mcD on her table, MAYBE about the fact that she was BF'ing her older toddler, in the heat of the moment, I would've had ALOT to say, I am sure where normally, I would never say anything like that to anyone

or its just an example of how everyone (myself included) can sometimes just take things to seriously on this board. We do not live in a super PC world, we never will and everyone is too sensitive. Sometimes, a comment is all it is, a comment and not some remark with underlying political/social commentary.
