Spinoff---Time spent in swing
Maybe it's just me but there are days when DS is in the swing for a couple hours at a time. He is a great sleeper, but he really doesn't nap in the crib. When he gets fussy and I try all other options (he rocking chair, swing, laying on boppy) and they don't work, I just put him in the swing knowing that he will sleep for hours in it.
He will wake up once and a while, but I know he's not ready to get out and he's back asleep in 2 minutes.
What's wrong with keeping him in the swing for 2 hours if that is the only way he will nap or if he is enjoying it? He also loves to sit in the swing and watch his Baby Einstein on the TV.

Re: Spinoff---Time spent in swing
I don't think there is anything wrong with keeping him in the swing if that is what he likes. You know what is best for your son. If that is how he sleeps best during the day, well great, let him rock away! My doc told me that placing them in the swing each day is great for sensory development!

Re: Spinoff---Time spent in swing
DD has an on again off again love affair with the swing- but if she is happy in it- i leave her there- that is sort of my parenting philosophy- whether it is right or wrong- whatever the kid is happy w/ she gets.

I've been following that too! So far, we have no problems, but it's still early

Re: Spinoff---Time spent in swing
Good question. That is pretty much the only place other than my chest that DD will nap during the day. I want to get her used to the crib but she's happier in the swing. My mother HATES that she is in her swing a lot and said her bald ring on the back of her head is from the swing - but if she's happy there...
ETA: We bring our swing everywhere with us. It's the only thing that allows us to be handsfree!

Re: Spinoff---Time spent in swing
DD slept and napped in her swing until she was 4 months old and began sleeping in her crib at night. She continued to nap in her swing until 6 months old. She still takes short naps in the swing - she is sleeping in it now. DD is 7 months old and sometimes it is the only thing that will calm her. I say if it works - use it.

Re: Spinoff---Time spent in swing
If they're sleeping, I don't see a problem at all - unless the mom requested that the baby be put to sleep in her crib.
If they're awake, I think 2-3 hours is excessive because there is no muscle development, etc. I think for a baby 30 minutes is a long time if they're awake unless someone is interacting with them.

Re: Spinoff---Time spent in swing
My daughter was collicky and a difficult sleeper so for her first 6 months, all her naps were in the swing, and many a night she slept in her swing overnight, particularly when she had a cold. I don't think there's a problem with it when they're sleeping - the issue is when they're awake...

Re: Spinoff---Time spent in swing
Nothing at all! It's saved us so many times when he is sick, keeps him upright, etc. I haven't used it much but when I did it was absolutely necessary and I would let him sleep in there as long as he needed to.

same here! DD sleeps great in her swing but we try to get her in the crib at night. But when all else fails (like last night), the swing it is!! After she falls asleep, we try to move her into the crib. Right now, she's napping in it! I would prefer only the crib, but the swing is magic! However, she does not spend any time awake in it. Just for sleeping.

Re: Spinoff---Time spent in swing
there is NOTHING wrong with keeping them in the swing. My boys slept in ther swings for 4 months. They are now in their cribs, and just nap in their swings during the day
