Spinoff about SUVs....sort of a PSA
I don't want this to come off as pretentious, or as directed toward anyone in particular, but I have been driving trucks for quite some time, and I just want to throw out a PSA for new SUV drivers.
The new SUVs that drive like cars: Please make sure to take the truck into an empty lot & see how it handles. The problem with a truck that drives like a car, coupled with a person who has never driven a truck, is that if the situation ever arises where you have to brake or swerve suddenly, or if you rely too heavily on the 4WD, is that the truck then all of a sudden drives like a truck. I only mention this b/c DH works on cars for a living for the past 15 years, and in the last 5 has seen quite a rise in accidents with first time SUV drivers. The old trucks were, well hard to drive, but you always knew your "limits" as far as how much room needed to brake, ability to negotiate traffic, and rollover instances. The new smooth driving SUVs are easier to handle in everyday situations, but then can catch you off-guard when it all of a sudden "acts like a truck."
Again, I am a big fan of trucks, and I think that they are great for anyone, especially families, but please all be carefu! and mindful that it is not a car

I actually really agree with this. I learned to drive on my parents old blazer and then had a jeep cherokee. When I got my Liberty I noticed how much easier it is to drive and it "drives like a car", so I totally could see what you are saying.

I totally agree with you We have an F250 Super Duty and I handle it very well but when we bought my Escape we tested it out in an empty shopping mall lot to see what it could and couldn't handle.
I can't even explain how in recent weeks down here in Florida I have seen so many nasty accidents in Chevy Trailblazers and Jeeps flipping or atleast driving through fences into trees for very slight accidents.
