Spinoff: Are you prepared if something like a terrorist attack or even a hurricane happened?
I mean by having extra food, batteries, etc?
ETA: They also sell water testers to make sure your tap water is safe to drink and also packets to purify the water.
My parent's live on the North Fork and because they are soo close to the CT powerplant, bought these pills to counteract the affects of radiation. It is sooo scary.

we have extra batteries & a radio & bottle water & like 15 flashlights (no joke), but not enough to get us through days without power.

We truly are...We keep canned goods in the house at all times, flashlights (even one that does not require batteries), landline phone, water, generator

I also wanted to add that those with babies should also make sure they have extra formula.
Even though Andrew is 13 months, I do keep extra cans of Next Step Toddler Formula just in case.

We have some stuff- flashlights, lots of water, batteries, a radio, canned food, first aid kit...But I feel like it isn't enough. 
We have stuff for the cats too- food, extra bowls, carrier, etc.

I have been prepared ever since I was ill-prepared for the blackout. I always stock up on water and non-perishable food. I also have candles a rechargeable flashlight and a mini battery operated tv. Okay, I'm high-maintenance...sue me.

Yes we do. It's our first hurricane season here in FL so we got tons of bottled water, flashlights, batteries, etc. We still need to get more food that can stay in the cabinet...

we have decorative candles i guess we can light - but other than that we don't really have extra water and food in the house

The only thing we have is extra cash saved in our house in case we need to skip town fast and ATMs aren't working.
But thinking about it, if there's no power, money can't get you too far anyway!!!!
we always say the one who's closest to home goes to the house to get our dog and the $$$ and run for my parents house upstate..

Yes, we did it after the New Orleans thing. Honestly it was having our cats that propelled us to do it.
The New Orleans hurricane situation affected me, too.
We think about the idea that if something terrible happened, there would likely be a kind of chaos. What we have done is prepared backpacks, camping, and survival gear.
We have gone camping, taken trails, and have taken a few survival technique classes.
But I'm still kinda scared about black bears and rabid animals. I really wouldn't know what to do.

DH has us all set up in case of a hurricane, flood, power outage, etc.....but there are things that no matter how prepared you are, it isn't ever enough (nuclear attack, etc.)
