SPINOFF: Baby Showers
How do you feel about sitting there watching the guest of honor open up all the gifts?? I really think its boring and a waste of time.. When I was the MOH for my BFF I sent out invitations requesting all gifts wraped in clear so they can be viewed.. It was Soooo much better.. Everything went smoother and we got to socialize much more.. What do you think??

Re: SPINOFF: Baby Showers
This topic was brought up most recently. And I believe the other poster liked the idea of the clear wrapping.
At baby showers, I personally like to see the guest of honor open up the gifts. I love to see the cute little baby clothes.
At Bridal showers, I find them boring.
I've been to showers where they serve cake while the Guest of Honor is opening the gifts. Also, I went to a shower most recently where they played bingo and you would mark off the gifts the Guest of HOnor would receive. It kept them busy during that time.
I don't get offended if people want to get up and leave after cake.
BTW, I give you permission to leave early at my shower.

Re: SPINOFF: Baby Showers
OMG!! I would never leave early.. I feel bad now.. But its just my opinion.. I know my Mother thinks the gifts should be opened out of respect.. I just think you get to have more socialization.. It takes up so much time.. Most people dont even watch.. But no offense!! I am going to have a great time!!! I always have fun everywhere I go..

Re: SPINOFF: Baby Showers
I hate this part of any shower-- although, I do perk up when my gift is being opened-- but I think that's just because ou are sitting there with gift, after gift being opened. However, I would certainly be willing to forgo this experience if I didn't have to sit through the unwrapping of everything else.
Showers are long enough-- I love the idea of clear wrap. After all-- mostly everything should be an expected gift off a registry anyway.

I'm joking! Don't feel bad. So many people feel the same way. Which is why I truly don't mind if people leave early.
But, I do agree with your mother.

Re: SPINOFF: Baby Showers
Ugh I HATE showers for this reason. It is like torture.. especially when the bride or mom-to-be isn't "quick" about it.
I didnt even want a bridal shower for this reason but of course that wouldnt fly with the fam. I didnt even bother trying to revolt agianst the baby one. People arent even watching half the time.

Re: SPINOFF: Baby Showers
people do this all the time,
it's PEEK-A-BOO showers,
bed bath & beyond even has special wrapping that you can see what it is now.. especially for these types of showers.
i think it's a great idea, especially at baby showers, it can take soooo long!!

Re: SPINOFF: Baby Showers
I like both concepts. I think if it is a very big shower, the clear wrap is the way to go. I have sat at showers with 100+ people and it is TORTURE sitting through the gifts. I went to a bridal shower once where the bride to be had a MICROPHONE to thank the guest and tell what the gift was! If it is a small shower I think opening the gifts is fine.

I don't mind it at baby showers ( I actually kinda like it) but bridal showers to me are the worst when it comes to the unwrapping !

Re: SPINOFF: Baby Showers
i kinda like seeing what other people bought....
However I have not been to one of those super large showers. i think one over 50 gifts would be a little excessive for opening------- BUT thats up to the mother to be, it is her & her baby's day

Re: SPINOFF: Baby Showers
IMO.... thats the main reason for the shower. I agree it can be tedious when its alot of gifts but guests dont have to stay glued to their seats. I feel like clear wrapping paper is saying " all I want is your gift now you can go" again just my opinion
Personally- I am having 2 seperate showers so the gifts won't be overwhelming and boring.

I have to agree- I'm not a fan of the whole "clear wrapping". I also didn't expect guests to stay in their seats watching every gift get opened. If I recall, that was when the cake and coffee was served.
