Spinoff: car seat position recs for mini-van...2-3 kids
Sorry this has been asked before but couldn't find it with the search function....
Just got ourselves our 1st mini-van (honda odyssey specifically)
Still trying to figure out car seat positions...
We have 2 kiddies AND one on the way..
Right now - My 2.5 yr old is in 2nd row behind driver..and my 4 yr old is in 3rd row behind passenger...we figured so we can utilize the 3rd row with adults if needed to getbackk there..
But when #3 comes..where should Go? In middle of 2nd row next to DS?
Other recs? What do u guys do? Thanks

We have the Odyssey (LOVE it-BTW) and have both our older DDs in the third row (each at a window) and the baby in the second row behind the passenger seat.

I have the baby and one of my twins in the second row and the other twin (almost 3) in the third row by the window. The baby is on the passenger side. We took out the middle seat in the second row and pushed the seat on the passenger side over so there is space to get into the third row.

Are the kid(s) in the 3rd row able to strap themselves in?
Bec I couldn't imagine reaching back in the third row every time to buckle in my 2.5 yr old..and un-buckling when we get to our destination...Esp since I normally have a bad back (herniated disc(s) and bulging ones too!) and now i have added being almost 7 mo pregnant right now!
Thank god my DD (4 yr ) can strap herself..that is the only way I think I could handle her back there..

No, they can't buckle and unbuckle themselves. I usually kneel on the floor and do it. Did it until the the day before I had the baby at 40 weeks +! It really isn't that bad with the seats in the middle pushed over, there is a decent amount of room to reach the seat in the third row if you put on the passenger side. I wouldn't put it on the drivers side though, that would be way too much of a pain.

Re: Spinoff: car seat position recs for mini-van...2-3 kids
We will be buying a minivan soon. When the baby comes in March we will need it, since my Ford Escape will not fit all 3 kids.
My 6 year old DD will go in the 3rd row. She is able to buckle herself in.
The 3 YO will go in the 2nd row, drivers side.
The baby will go in the 2nd row, passenger side.

ok this is what I was originally thinking..but how is your 6 yr old going to get back into the 3rd row if your 2 younger are in the seats that are used to move up to get back there!?
just curious..trying to think through all scenerios! =)

Best locations are for the oldest in the third row, but try to choose a location you can get to. The baby should be on the passenger side - 2nd Row and lastly the middle child 2nd row behind the driver.
Look to see if your 2nd row seat can be shifted to the middle. If that is possible, move the seat so that you have better access to the 3rd row. The hardest thing is making sure the oldest is secured properly.

We haven't started actually looking at minivans as of yet, just looking online at our options and pricing. But i know a few friends have captain seats in the 2nd row, and so there is room for an older child (or parent to help) to pass through.
I guess this is something we are all going to need to try out when we go car shopping! The salesman is gonna love me, making my DD climb in and out of the 3rd row and seeing if she can handle it, and if DH and I can fit through too!

Re: Spinoff: car seat position recs for mini-van...2-3 kids
I have a honda odyssey. We have the 2 captains chairs in the 2nd row pushed together towards the drivers side. This creates a "walkway" behind the passenger seat leading to third row where older DS carseat is. I have to trouble reaching back to strap him in. I can reach him from the doorway. If an adult were to use the third row, they would have to squeeze by the carseat. But still doable.

OK I think this is what we are going to do..
the odyssey has 2 benches...with the middle of the 2nd row removable...but if everyone slides the captains together anyway...I think I am going to leave that seat in and put DS (2.5 yr) behind driver, infant right next to him in middle seat and leave the 3rd seat in the 2nd row in-tact for extra adult seating...and then just move this up (like I do now-very quick and easy) to allow my oldest (DD-4yrs) to climb in back as well as any extra adults that we may need to do the same!
This way I still have room for 3 adults and 3 baby seats at any given time!
Whattya think!?!?!
