Spinoff from my own post...does your child actually PLAY with toys?
We have so many toys for Megan.
From learning tables to shape sorters. Toys that make noise, toys that move. Books, puzzles..anything you can think of. I switch them up while shes on the floor every day. She plays with NOTHING!
She will crawl over to them..look at them for a minute and then off to the remote control, the entertainment center drawers or whatever else is not hers to play with.
Do you think a lot of children this age dont actually play yet because they are exploring everything else?
I have a toy bag I take with us to restaurants to keep her quiet. I give her a toy, she throws it on the floor. She does much better with the puffs container! LOL
How about your kids?

Exactly! When I'm in a diner for example she plays with the creamer containers and the salt packets, not the toys I bring!
I do find now that she's older (almost 2 years old) she "plays" more with toys, especially shape sorters, puzzles, and anything you can throw/push/pull, etc. But she didn't for the longest time, she just wanted our phones, remotes, keys, etc.

DS loves his toys. His pack n play is full of toys and when I put him in there he loves playing with them. He also has toys on his foam mat on the floor that he plays with when he is on the floor and he loves them too.

Andrew has always played with his toys. Esp putting the blocks through the top of the block bin. He likes to match the shapes.
But he also loves the remote and trying to put things into the DVD player

Hailey went through that phase too. For a few months she showed no interest in toys. Now at 13 months she is starting to play again now that she can actually sort things and feed her baby, etc.

Alyssa is the same way, she never was interested in toys, Now even at 14 months, all she wants to play with is my keys, remote controls and cell phone

Matthew is the same way.
He does play with his toys, but in his own way. He pushes them and then crawls after them. When he reaches the toy he pushes it again and then crawls after it. I too bring toys and stuff to restaurants and one toy will entertain him for like maybe 10 minutes until he drops it on the floor and wants to play with the utensils or anything he can grab on the table.
He has shape shorters but all he's interested in doing is throwing the toys and chasing them. Actually what he has started doing is stacking blocks. The most he can stack are 3 blocks. He's so cute. He'll stack them clap his hands and then knock them down... :
And yes my son loves the remote, phone, keys and a brush. Yep that's right a brush. Everytime he sees the baby brush he has to have it! and he will cry if you take it away from him...

I always say that no matter how many toys they have, they will always want the things they can't play with...

Re: Spinoff from my own post...does your child actually PLAY with toys?
Did anyone ever notice that all these toys all have to do something? LIke make music, light up? Overstimulation and lack of imagination I think they foster.
My DD is the same way she'll play with those kinds of toys for a couple mins, but her favorite toys she plays with all day long are the toys that don't "do" anything.
Her Favs are her BOOKS (she carries them around all day), sand bucket and shovel, wooden puzzle, her baby dolls, balls, and a xyliphone (sp) piano that she loves to make her own music on.

I totally agree. I always try to sit with DS in the daytime and show him the books with colors, shapes and numbers. I try to get him to point to things but he'd just rather sit there and turn the pages. Just sitting there and turning the pages entertains him. So i'll just leave him be if that entertains him.

Re: Spinoff from my own post...does your child actually PLAY with toys?
DD loves her toys, but she does seem to get bored with them after awhile. her diapers (not used of course) seem to be her latest favorite "toy." And her burp cloths are so much fun. Forget about the remote control. I did buy her a toy one, but that's not nearly as much fun.

Re: Spinoff from my own post...does your child actually PLAY with toys?
Noreen, Ava was always the same way. No interest in toys. However, she LOVES books and loves to explore the room, the house, etc. her new favorite activity is taking her clothes out of the dresser and putting them back in. She could do that all afternoon. That and playing pretend with her kitchen. She's just too curious to sit and play with a toy that she has already figured out.

I actually took the batteries out of an old remote and gave it to her to play with, but once she realized it didn't do anything she wanted nothing to do with it!
