Spinoff from my post about daycare evaluation
So DH voiced some concern about the daycare staff feeling smug now that they received this good evaluation.
I reminded him that things have changed since I started raising my concerns and that we are the ones that got the evaluator in to HELP them so he needs to remember that.
If they say anything to him I told him to hold his head up and congratulate them on improving - tell them he really hopes that they keep up all of the efforts that were made to help them with this situation that they they continue to improve.
What would your response be?
ETA: We are leaving but he is there today.

You have the right attitude.
Don't say anything, and if approached, say "well done".

Re: Spinoff from my post about daycare evaluation
I would feel the same way as your husband, but turn it around the way you suggested.
You should feel proud that you were the force that instituted the change. If I was a mom in that daycare, I'd be thanking you!

Re: Spinoff from my post about daycare evaluation
Ugh, that's a tough call, being that Lucas is still there. If he wasn't there, I'd be telling them that they're lucky that it wasn't a surprise visit, glad that they had 2 weeks to prepare. But since Lucas is still there and you want to keep the peace as much as you can for LUCAS' SAKE, I'd do what you suggest...try to focus on their improvements while still pointing out that you are the ones that helped-- "glad we were able to get you help",something like that.

I'm not 100% sure though that they have improved or changed in any way other than to clean up their act enough to get ready for a planned evaluation.
I'm not sure what my response would be because their smugness would bother me. I give you credit for viewing it the way you are.

I don't deserve any credit...I am a working mom that is stuck and this is effecting my son I wish I had the means to pull him out now but until we get into another center I can't make it work short of taking an unpaid personal leave and financially that would be hard. So I sit hear listening to these excuses all the while my son has to suffer and I wish I could really make it better...wish that things weren't this way. Wish that I was a stronger person to go in and pull him out and tell them all to go to hell.
But I don't and I can't so I know I suck.
But I thank you with all my heart for your kind words.

You ARE a strong person and you are handling this bad situation so admirably. You are doing the very best for Lucas and you are an amazing mother.
I think about you and Lucas all the time, and am hoping and praying for you that a spot at the new center opens up real soon!!
It will be OK!!

Re: Spinoff from my post about daycare evaluation
you DO NOT SUCK. You are doing the best you can for your little boy, whom I know you love more than anything in this world. You are changing his situation.
1. by getting the facility he is in evaluated, and force them to be a better facility.
2. Moving him to a place where he will be safe and well cared for.
YOU ARE DOING THE BEST YOU CAN...and thats all any of us can do.

Last i remember you were pulling him out...what happened? I pulled him out the second week of July and contacted an Early Childhood Specialist at the Child Care Council of Nassau. We agreed that Lucas should go back the week that the biter was out to get re-acquainted with the routine before she came to evaluate.
What is the evaluation/improvement you are referring to? The evaluation was SUPPOSED to be to assess how the have handled the biting problem there and how they are currently handling it - to provide resources and guidance to improve the situation. What it turned out to be was very different.
Why are u still there? they dont have openings in a place you wanted? No - we are on a waiting list until September then he's officiallly out although I hope it sooner. Why are we still there...I keep asking myself that but there aren't any other options right now that we feel comfortable with. DH and I are going to see what we can do to take time off. I know on the outside it seems simple enough to just take him out but it's not. I've received some FMs about this and if people think I am wrong they are entitled to that opinion...but it hurts. I'm doing what I can with what I have. It was my hope that this woman today would offer solutions to make the environment better so that we could keep him there until the waiting list opened up...now we have to reevaluate that.

Re: Spinoff from my post about daycare evaluation
You are doing EVERYTHING you can do. Please do not let anyone make you feel bad or second guess yourself. Those of us that are or have been working moms know that you can not just take off work for weeks at a time until you find a better situation. It stinks but for right now aside from the biting he likes it there. After everything you have done I would be shocked if Lucas got bit again. Those aides will be on him or the biter like white on rice. The director is not going to want evaluations and people from the state in his/her center.
You seem like a great mom and you have gone way above what most would have done. It is easy to be on the outside and just say "pull him". Unfortunately, life is not always that easy. I hope Lucas has a great week without the biter.
