Spinoff from NFR: Do things happen for a reason?
Yesterday I caught the early train home so I could finish a report in peace. Instead of getting off in Huntington (where I had parked), I got off in Northport (where I usually park). I completely forgot where I parked. The last time this happened was years ago, I was 8 months pregnant with Maddie.
I get off the train & call DH. He doesn't pick up his cell & the house phone repeatedly comes up with a message to "Try your call again".
I'm really annoyed & start walking all of the way home. As I'm walking down the street that the train station was on, I spot a baby, well not a baby...toddler really about 18-19 months old. She's naked except for a diaper & standing on the side of the road where cars are whizzing by during rush hour commute.
I saw the door to her house was ajar & I called (screamed) to the people in the house until finally the mom came out. I said "I didn't know if you knew she was outside." The look of panic on this poor woman's face reminded me how we all find out things too late about our kids - that they can roll over, that they can open a door or that they're brave enough to leave the house if someone left the door ajar. We discovered that not only does Maddie sleepwalk but that she opened the outside door while doing it.
I continued on my way home, no longer angry at myself for being so stupid to miss my stop. When I got home, I found our house phone still dead. Minutes later it was working.
Odd, right?

OMG... I am not sure what is more disturbing. The baby alone outside or the cars driving by.
I do believe you were there at the
"right" time. It does make you wonder... what if though!!!!
Luckily... all went well.

I believe that in that moment you were right where you belonged. Thank God you were there for that little girl and her mom, who I am sure is even more grateful that you missed your stop.

Barb - I have the goosebumps ALL over!!
That is truly amazing and yes I definitely do believe things happen for a reason.
And  for being there for that child

that isn't odd to me..
don't mean to be religious but that is God at work... that's what I believe... so many things have been happening lately that are "coincidence" that I don't believe in that word anymore.
