Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
It's never happened to me... 27 years and never witnessed a tree fall over IRL!
You?

Re: Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
We've seen it lean and then we've adjusted it. One year it had a really oddly shaped trunk so we actually attached it to the floor, but no, we check it thoroughly to make sure it's up properly.

Re: Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
Yup! When I was a kid our tree fell over. It was ENORMOUS, too.
A few ornaments broke, a few tears were shed, and we all laughed the res of the holiday at the tree tied to the wall air conditioner.

This just happened to me and DH!! We came home this week and the tree was leaning over so far I screamed when I walked in the door! Now everytime I walk in the house I expect the tree has crashed to the floor!!

Re: Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
never had a tree fall over but we have always had fake trees so maybe that is why it never fell?? i did witness my brother knock over a decorative mini tree that my mom was working on...
one year, my mom found these little trees at a craft store. then, you could buy little ornaments and hot glue them on. then, she bought a nice wooden base and a glass globe goes over the tree - bam! mini tree! - a perfect Christmas gift for all
well, actually MAKING them - not so easy! my mom had a heck of a time trying to glue everything on and get it to stay b/c everything is SO small. one time, she was almost done with the tree for my grandmother - she was about to put the tree skirt around the bottom, glue mini gifts and put the dome on ... when ... my brother reached across the counter (where she was working) to get something and KNOCKED it over with his elbow by accident... all the ornaments: off.
my mom went through the five stages of loss - there was anger at first, then came the sadness/tears, denial, etc...

Re: Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
when I was younger I remember it happening. And mom used to tie it up.
I have never had it fall over, but I think this is why I leave mine up at least a week before decorating, so be sure it has settled.

Re: Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
Yup- once- the first Christmas I spent with DH before we were married. I let him pick out the tree and the one he got had a bent trunk. I was so upset- I lost a ton of ornaments I had collected on travels over the years.

If I go home and my tree is down I'll blame it on your thread!

Re: Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
I've caught my tree in mid-fall, but that has almost always been while I'm putting on the lights or trying to shift the tree so that the 'better' side is in the front.
I'm decorating my tree tonight. Wish me luck!

I have never personally seen a tree fall over. But my Aunt's tree fell over one year - on my sister!

Re: Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
When I was a kid I believe it almost did... had something to do with the dog.
ETA: I think that was the same year the dog ate the chocolate ornaments (foil and all) off the tree.

Re: Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
Yes when I was younger. My parents used to get a real tree and we're not sure if my cat tried to climb it or it just fell over on its own but it broke a ton of ornaments and cracked my mom's glass table.

Re: Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
This happened a bunch of times when I was growing up. The stupid thing would fall over in the middle of the night and trip the motion sensors, setting off the burglar alarm.

Re: Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
Twice in the same year...It was the first year we cut the tree down ourselves. Apparantly, my brother didn't make a straight cut. We woke up the next morning after my mom & I spent hours decorating it & it was flat on the ground. We got it back in the stand (still not realizing why it fell) & it happened again!!!
Finally we realized to look at the trunk!

Re: Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
Never, but we have permanent anchors in two walls to prevent that from happening. (They're covered with artwork & a shelf when not in use.)

Re: Spinoff: Have you ever had your tree fall over?
Yep.... it would NOT stand up on it's own.... it's sounds terrible, but because our tree goes in the corner, we put a string around it and stapled it to the chair rail You couldn't see the string, but it was the ONLY thing that would keep it up
