Spinoff of Heather's walking post...

(b/c I have to make everything about MEChat Icon )

DS is 15 months and is cruising, and pulling up and pushing push toys and walking with people, but he does NOT want to walk on his own....is there anything I can do to encourage him?

What is considered walking late? I didn't realize so many babies walked before a yearChat Icon Chat Icon

Those sound like all the right things. You don't want to pressure him and have him get frustrated...it will come in time.

I agree, I think it is a great sign that he is doing all those other things. I know some babies do not walk until 18 months or later

I was completely frustrated when Gilly wasnt walking at 14 months. I was like WTH?!?! everyone elses child was walking at 12 months. A few weeks later Boom...she was walking. i wouldnt be concerned at his age right now. The dr told me they dont worry until 17 months.

Have my idiot father come over and annoy him. Seriously, that is what made my daughter walk, she wanted to get away from him.

My kids walked at about 15 months too... I wouldn't worry too much, sounds like he's doing all the right things. Nothing to be worried about until 18 months or later.

DS is too cautious. He does not walk either at 13 months.

I was told 18 months is when the peds want to look into it.

To encourage the girls I kneel in front of them and hold out my hands. Or you might hold both his hands and walk him toward you.

There is nothing for you to be concerned about..if he wasnt doing the things he's doing (cruising, walking with toys, etc) than maybe I'd be a little concerned..some kids are just overly cautious.

If he's walking, cruising, walking with toys, etc. he will be fine.
He'll just take off one day.

At Bryan's 15 month check up, he still wasn't doing any of the above.
As I have posted before, he now gets PT and is ALL over the place, not walking, but, doing everything listed above.
He is 18 months and I think and hope within a month he's going to be walking!

Each child is different and I am sure any day now your DS will take off.Chat Icon

With my son, once he is standing, i put his favorite toy under my chin..and i stretch my arms out...that makes him want to walk bc he tries to get the toy (and at the same time, i can catch him if he falls..actually WHEN he falls)

Re: Spinoff of Heather's walking post...

It took Noah a longgggg time from that active cruising to walking.....but i dont think its a bog deal .. He may have started late but the natural progression is happening.
My friends son was 16 months when he took his 1st steps.

Re: Spinoff of Heather's walking post...

My DD just turned 16 months and yesterday, she walked for the very first time. She still crawls but she definitly can walk now too.

I was very concerned too and everyone kept telling me that it will happen. It is so easy for others to say this to me becuse their children were walking by 12 months!! Anyway, my Dr. told me if she is not walking by 17 months then to make an appt.

Some kids are just more afraid to let go and just go for it. My DD was this way. We encouraged her as much as possible..."Lainie, want to walkto mommy"...etc... And then she did.
