Spinoff on Humidifer question...

so after reading up on the difference between cold and warm mist humidifiers I read

A cool-mist humidifier breaks water into tiny droplets without heating it, and sprays it into the air as a cool mist. Because the water is unheated, the humidifier can become a breeding ground for fungi, harmful germs and molds unless the appliance is kept scrupulously clean. However, these humidifiers are safer for homes with small children because they do not get hot. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions about how to clean the humidifier and how often to do so.

OK I certainly do not rinse it and clean it every night and sterilize it every week (as per the instructions.) I put fresh water in every day, but only wash it like once a month.

Does everyone that uses one clean it so frequently. Now I'm nervous about the air quality. SOmetimes I'm so lazy and stupid Chat Icon

I get lazy too. I'm trying to be more diligent with his little lungs though. I'm lucky to shower every day.

Lol - we had this conversation last night. We stopped using ours because we hated cleaning it. DH asked me to ask around to see if anyone has one that is not annoying to clean and doesn't have to be cleaned as often.

Re: Spinoff on Humidifer question...

I recently put away the cool mist one and my mom gave me her old Vicks one. The hot one where you can put the vicks in the top. And let me tell you, it really made a difference!!!!

Re: Spinoff on Humidifer question...

I dont clean mine either. I just empty out the water and let it dry. I have only used it a few times. I think you can clean it with vinegar and water.

Don't feel so awful. I don't clean mine diligently either and the one I have is very hard to clean. I use it every night and at naptime because the air is very dry in our apt. I recently bought a drop in thing-y from Target that keeps it much cleaner. I try to clean it with Pampers Clean & Play spray every week.

I clean it w/bleach weekly and soak the parts in vinegar. Dump water and let it air dry daily (when I remember)
