Spinoff Post About Commuion Gift Giving

Our niece (DH's goddaughter) is going to have her Sweet 16 party in June. The 3 of us are going and I told DH that we should should give money. I said $200 but he said only $100 because when we got married his sister only gave us $100 from her & her daughter. What do you think?

$100... she'll think she's striking rich.

When I went to Sweet 16 (granted this was almost 10 years ago) I gave a standard $25 to everyone.

I would give between $150 and $200 for 3 people.

I did that too and I went to them more than 10 years ago but I figured that since it was family (especially our niece) that we should give more. When we went to my cousin's sweet 16 (5 years ago) I gave $100 for DH & I.

That is what I was thinking so that is why I said $200. I know that some of DH's family is not goving to give that much but I figured that is DH's goddaughter.

I think I'd probably give in the $150-200 range, but it's honestly about how much you can afford.

I do, however, think $100 is plenty generous for a sweet 16.

Thanks everyone. I am going to tell DH that you all agree with me on the gift.
