Spinoff to Destination Wedding post - does gift change?
Do you give less for your wedding gift if you incur significant travel expenses to go to a wedding?
This is not a family member or close friend. We live in MD and so do they. They came to our wedding in NY - but drove up and stayed with his Mom (he's originally from LI). They gave us a generous gift.
Now, they're getting married. We assumed it would be in MD or NY, but it's in FL (that is where the bride is from). The area it is in - our tix will be very pricey and we will also have to pay for at least two nights in a hotel. So, do we give what we normally would -- or a little less bc of the travel expense?
The only weddings I've gone to that I travelled for were either not really pricey for travel or they were family or close, close friends, where I gave the same gift regardless.

Re: Spinoff to Destination Wedding post - does gift change?
I think I would tend to give less if I had the expense of airfare and hotel than if it were a local wedding.
We had a lot of OOTers at our wedding and I didn't care if they gave me a gift or not, I was just happy that they were there. That is me, though, I am sure opinions on this will vary a lot.

For me it does. Dh and I are traveling to Colorado for a good friends wedding and have to shell out a lot of $ for airfare, hotel and car rental. I'll be getting them something from their registry. I would have liked to give more generously, but can't. I feel bad about it, but am sure they understand.

We have a wedding in Mexico in October, but our wedding was upstate, so there was some travel involved also.
We will probably give them what they gave us......
Otherwise, I would give a little less than normal, maybe $200 or $250 if I usually give $300 or $350.....

Thanks for all your opinions! This makes me feel better as I would really like to give them the same gift they gave us - but don't feel like we can financially if we spend all the $$ to go to the wedding.
