Re: Spinoff: School Loans
I had $60,000 from grad school and I'm finishing up paying it off...It is taking 4 years. I wanted rid of it before we get a higher mortgage payment.

Re: Spinoff: School Loans
DH paid his off in like 3 years. He put his bonus each year toward it.
We pay the minimum on mine each month since the interest is so low we'd prefer to put the extra toward the mortgage.

Me too. It totally stinks, but was the only way I could afford the payments.

Re: Spinoff: School Loans
Thanks! We're lucky enough to be able to live on DH's salary alone, so we banked some of mine and paid off the loan with the rest of mine.

Re: Spinoff: School Loans
i think DH's will take 10 years (total) to pay back. i may use some of our tax refund to pay extra though. Its a $25K loan.

Re: Spinoff: School Loans
We are also on the 30 year plans! The interest rate is so low that we'd rather keep our cash towards buying a house.

Re: Spinoff: School Loans
DH is on the 30 year plan too (undergrad and grad at Hofstra) but he has a crazy low interest rate (2%?)
i am finishing grad school (also hofstra) next semester and i am doing to pay them off in 3 years ($40K in loans ) and then help DH pay off his, so we are hoping to be done in 6 years.

Re: Spinoff: School Loans
It took DH 10 years to pay his off and it is going to take me 13 (mine deferred when I was in grad school PT which thankfully work covered). I have exactly 3 years left!!!
I looked into consolidating and the rates were substantially higher in my case than they would be if I kept everything as is so I decided not to.
