You dont even want to know.
To me, it was the WORST period cramp and then to top it off, the most incredible tightening of the uterus all happeniing at the same time. It literally took my breath away. I personally found it to be AWFUL. But i had an intense labor situation bc i had STRONG contractions at only 1cm and they lasted over a minute and came every 2-4. I never got relief

I would say the same as Michelle...They feel like menstrual cramps that you just can't tolerate. I was actually doubled over in so much pain plus you feel like you have such an urge to go #2.....I had really intense contractions but my labor progressed very fast as I was admitted to the hospital at 6cm

I didn't think so! It hurt like hell, but I was okay. No tears, or passing out. When labor contractions start, they are no worse then a menstrual cramp, then as time goes on and they get more intense and closer together they start to really hurt. You literally can't speak through a hard labor contraction. All you can do is breath, and moan. It is a menstrual cramp x10, with tightening of the uterus. Almost like bad BH with alot of pain. I might be the wrong person to talk to, but I didn't find labor to be bad at all. It hurt, but you get through it. You have no choice. You build it up so much while pregnant, but once it happens, you just get through it. This is just in my case, I know some have really hard labor and delivery's.

I agree, worst period cramp and tightening. I didn't feel faint, but the pain did make me feel nauseous. It was probably the worst pain I've ever felt. But I also had 48+ hours of labor.

See, why would I even open this thread? I just let out a noise somewhere between a laugh and a sob.
Thank you for sharing ladies who have had difficult labors. It at least proves you're still up and walking around (and therefore survived) and some of you have been tricked into having more than one!

I am a masochist for even posting this question...and yet, I keep coming back for more. I can't get enough of other women's experiences though. I know that I will fall somewhere in the range and I am just so curious to know what that range is. Thank you to everyone who posted so far. I truly appreciate you sharing stories about your contractions. Good thing is to see that everyone does laugh again!

Re: Spinoff: So What DO Hard Labor Contractions Feel Like?
I keep asking my mom this as she is 5'2 and gave birth to my 9 lb sister with no meds... she said that because my normal periods are so painful (sometimes enough for me to pass out, I was on perscription pain killers for it), that childbirth will just be like this, except I won't pass out.

Re: Spinoff: So What DO Hard Labor Contractions Feel Like?
So many people say like period cramps, but for me, no part of labor was anything like period cramps. So, I think it may be different for different people. Or I'm just weird.
The very very worst of it to me I can't describe. It was too painful at that point to stop and think about what it felt like. I almost threw up once. I wanted cool towels on my head. It was just overpowering. The good part is it was pretty short lived. That stage of labor did not last long for me.
