spinoff to baby and insurance: how do you get the baby a SS #?
never thought about it until now... but I'd like to get it done sooner rather than later!

It's part of the paperwork to get a birth certificate. At least in NYC. I have it already and it's just a box you check on that form.

oooh, really? that's super easy.
I know back in the day (early 70's), mom had to drag my tiny smelly toosh to the SS office  I figured things were more streamlined relative to then, but I didn't think it would be THAT convenient!

my hospital filled out the paperwork for me, i just had to give them mine and DH's information.
it will come in the mail - can't get any easier than that!!

Same story no matter where you live- I am in Cali and they did it at the hospital.

The hospital usually asks you. It should be part of your L & D registration papers.

Yes, the hospital gives you paperwork and they will take care of it. My friends tell me that they'll give you the option to take the paperwork and take care of it yourself, but let the hospital do it, then you don't have to worry about it and you'll get the baby's SS card in the mail.
