Spinoff to baby being freezing at night... space heater?

I always remember being told that space heaters are dangerous, cause fires, etc. and shouldn't be left running at night. Have improvements been made in more recent times where these issues are no longer a concern? DD's room is FREEZING and if there's a safe space heater that i'm missing out on, i'd love to know! TIA!

Yes today's space heaters are much safer than the ones of the past.
We have a ceramic one and it is cool to the touch, has a timer and a temp setting so the room doesn't get too hot or you can program it to turn off after a certain number of hours.
We have used it since DD's first winter and it is great.
We use one in our bedroom as well.

I'm so grateful our lo has her own heating zone. For her room with that said what's a good temperature to keep it at? Her poor little hands get cold in there.

I'd also put a smoke detector in the room to be safe.

Also when you buy one look for one that has auto shut off if it tips over.

Re: Spinoff to baby being freezing at night... space heater?

Thanks girls. I think we do have a smoke detector in her room and I will look for auto shut off.

Roz - I have no idea. I can never tell what the temp really is in her room, we only have 1 zone of heat. I usually have the thermostat at 72-73 in the dead of winter, but it was a mild winter last year and it was the first year with her in the house. And she was still sleeping in our room until like February anyway.

ETA: the video monitor reads between 68 and 72 in her room - i'm good with that.

don't let the cold hands bother you - i've read in several places that the hands are not a true indication of how warm/cold they are. i think you're supposed to tell temp by how the neck and face feel

we have a sep heating/cooling zone for DS's room as well (we have ductless mini splits) so in the summer its at 74 or 72 and in winter the heat is at 68 or 70
his room is fairly small and gets heated a lot during the day by the sun so stays warm.

Re: Spinoff to baby being freezing at night... space heater?

We had one when DS was about a year old. It shorted out in the outlet and caused a nice smoke condition in the house. FD had to come and see if there was a fire in the wall.. It was a newer one that was suppose to turn off when it hit a certain temperature. It didn't! I ended up just putting him in warmer clothes at night and he was fine.. Cold hands and feet aren't going to hurt them....
