Spinoff to bumpers... another question (esp for BTDT moms)
For a tiny infant of only a few wks, are the bumpers ok? Do newborns normally wiggle around in their crib? Or do they stay put in the center where you lay them?
i feel like anytime ive seen a newborn in a crib, they look so tiny and the sides of the cribs where bumper is seems miles away to them

Re: Spinoff to bumpers... another question (esp for BTDT moms)
my ds was SOOOOO active when he slept that we had to take him out of the bassinet at 2 weeks because his moving kept us awake.. he never stopped moving and when he was in the crib he would be on completely different sides of the crib in different directions everytime i checked on him... and i am not talking every few hours difference... i would check on him, go down and pump (so 15-20 minutes) come back up and he would be in a different direction on the other end of the crib... he was a very active baby before he was born and even today(he is 1 today) he never stops... he also never took to swaddling, which i think is because he was such an active baby

DD will be 2 next month and her bumpers are still in. We never had an issue with them and they keep the pacifier in the crib When she was an infant she hardly moved around.

Re: Spinoff to bumpers... another question (esp for BTDT moms)
the thing with bumpers doesnt necessarily have to do with them moving around. They can suffocate, yes, if they roll into them, but suffocation is not the same as SIDS. They believe SIDS is caused by balnkets, positioners and bumpers when the baby exhales and the Carbon Dioxide gets trapped bc they air cant circulate properly. Therefore the baby rebreathes the carbon dioxide and not fresh O2. They think that this rebreathing of carbon dioxide is a contributor to SIDS since they are not getting fresh oxygen.
So no, even as a newborn they werent worth the risk to me. Id much rather DC get a bump or a bruise. Once he was old enough and was moving and getting his limbs caught, we got the breathable bumpers.

Re: Spinoff to bumpers... another question (esp for BTDT moms)
I've also never had an issue with bumpers. My DS was in his bassinet until 6mnth (he was huge for it though) and then I finally transitioned him to the crib with the bumpers. He was very active but I never had a problem with the bumpers.
TBH, I have the angel sensor monitor (not sure of actual name) so if DS was to stop breathing an alarm would go off. I think this made me really comfortable with blanekt, bumpers, etc.

Same here.
DS slept with them in from day 1 until we turned his crib into a toddler bed when he was 27 months old.
My baby cousin died from SIDS, but he wasn't even in his crib at the time, the thing is with SIDS is that they don't know what causes it.

Re: Spinoff to bumpers... another question (esp for BTDT moms)
As a newborn, my DD didn't really wiggle around. I left the bumpers in for a couple of weeks, got too nervous over "what ifs" and took them out.
This time, I will go straight to breathable bumpers-keeps limps and pacifiers in the crib with no danger.

Re: Spinoff to bumpers... another question (esp for BTDT moms)
We never had an issue with our bumpers until DS started using them as a step stool to trying to climb out. As soon as we saw that, the bumpers were gone.

Re: Spinoff to bumpers... another question (esp for BTDT moms)
I used a co-sleeper until 5.5 or 6 months, so I never used a regular bumper. After about 1 month in her crib (maybe less) I got the breatheable bumpers and still use those.

Re: Spinoff to bumpers... another question (esp for BTDT moms)
DS did not move around a lot - and by the time he did, he was more than able to move his face away from the bumpers. we had his regular bumpers in until 11/12 months when he started climbing on them
i am pretty sure i'm going to use breathable bumpers this time, just because i don't know how this DC will be.
