spinoff to cuomo announcing flu restrictions
DS is 1 year and his Pediatrician has been out of the flu shot for two weeks. Now he has a cold. Does anyone know if he could have the shot still while sick? Would anyone hesitate to bring a 1 year old to a Pharmacy for the shot? I was under the impression he needed a special kind at his age but maybe I am wrong?

Re: spinoff to cuomo announcing flu restrictions
I wouldn't hesitate to get the flu shot from the pharmacy.
Personally I would wait until the cold has passed as I believe the flu shot is "live" so if his immune system is already compromised, he might be more apt to be symptomatic from the shot.

No. They say if you are currently sick to wait to get the vaccine.

I do not even think a pharmacy can give a baby the shot.

Re: spinoff to cuomo announcing flu restrictions
You can get the flu shot while you have a cold. It is not recommended with a fever, but with congestion, cough, etc. is ok. The flu shot is not a live vaccine. The flu mist does contain some live virus.

Thank you for your responses. You can get the flu shot with a cold (no fever). I called to ask. I have a bigger worry about having a random Pharmacist give him the shot. I don't know what to do, all they hype has me CRAZY

As long as the is no fever you/ kids can get a flu shot even if you have a cold.

Re: spinoff to cuomo announcing flu restrictions
i called a number of pharmacies and none of them are allowed to give under 18 they heard about new from cuomo but were not directed by their managers to dispense to under 18.. if anyone hears different please let me know i would prefer to bring my daughters to a pharmacy rather than their Dr with all the sick kids there.

You're not suppose to have the flu shot unless you're completely well. I would wait until he's better from his cold........just in case.

Doctors approve any vaccine if they have a cold. No fever. My daughter had a cold and I still gave her a vaccine. Biggest mistake!!! She then had a reaction to it and was fighting both a cold and the reaction. IMO don't ever vaccine an under the weather child.
