Spinoff to first week of school
How about for high school? I'm planning on spending the first day going over the syllabus, but what about the rest of the first week? Do you start teaching the second day, or wait till the beginning of the first full week? Thanks!

I teach middle school and start teaching "lightly" on day two. This is after I hand out textbooks.

Re: Spinoff to first week of school
I don't know what days everyone else starts on (in their district) but we just have Thursday/Friday the first week.
On Thursday my goal is: Seating Chart Some type of icebreaker Syllabus Textbooks/Materials
On Friday my goal is: maybe another ice breaker
to start lightly teaching and introducing the chapter. I know the first few days of schools there are usually a lot of schedule changes so I don't want to get too far ahead.

Re: Spinoff to first week of school
In my school, we only see each class 1x that first week. So, that 1st day I did the syllabus, books, etc. then began teaching the very next class.

Re: Spinoff to first week of school
I teach high school and I do introductions and expectations the first day and then start teaching on the second day.
This year though my new school has block scheduling, so I think I will be doing all that and a basic mini-lesson on observation and inference on the first day. (I teach science)

I teach middle school and will start with actual "teaching" on Monday (our classes start on Wed so 3 days of intro, rules, contracts, etc)

I use the first day for rules. I usually jump right in the next day.

This is what I do as well - minus the textbook. Those get handed out at the end of September/beginning of October
