(Spinoff to Goat cheese), can I have Mozzarella cheese?
I have been staying away from all cheese except Cheddar and American. The nurse said no soft cheese. Does that mean if the cheese is pasteurized, I can have it.

I was told pasteurized cheese is fine. I eat whatever cheese I want in moderation. No one can keep me away from my cheese!

You can have hard Mozzarella that has been pasteurized such as Polly-O. But fresh Mozzarella in water I am not sure about, I assume that's soft and not pasteurized so I will not be eating that.

Same here. The only thing about mozzarella is I think the fresh mozzarella in the water is sometimes not pasteurized.

pasteurized cheese is fine... fresh mozz usually isnt, but if you can see the packaging and read if it is pasteurized, then it is fine... if it is being served at a restaurant then it is harder to tell

As long as the fresh is pasteurized you can have it. Just ask the place where you buy the cheese from

Product of an incubater that smoked three packs a day and craved cheap canned beer...so yes...I eat fresh mozzarella and Brie and Feta and all of it!! And by the way..I turned out better than average as compared to my other siblings whose mother just craved Ice cream....
Not to say I condone the drinking or smoking while pregnant thing, but just using it as a point of reference.
P.S. I eat hot dogs too...and love them!

Oops, we aren't supposed to have lox . I was at a bris yesterday and the lox I ate was really yummy! Like a previous poster, everything in moderation... I only eat pasteurized cheese though (including feta, mozzarella, etc)

Word, sista!
I just bought a log of goat cheese and mozzarrella cheese from Trader Joe's. Nothing can keep me away from the cheese.
To answer the question- I was told as long as it's pastuerized it's fine- soft or not.

Re: (Spinoff to Goat cheese), can I have Mozzarella cheese?
I was told that regular mozzarella is fine, but fresh mozzarella can be dangerous--not because of pasteurization (or lack thereof), but because the water surrounding can hold onto toxins that are part of the process of making it.

Re: (Spinoff to Goat cheese), can I have Mozzarella cheese?
Ooops!! I have had fresh mozz MANY times during this pregnancy and didn't even think twice about it. Then again, I'm pretty lax about most things. I chowed down on hot dogs in the first trimester like it was nobodys business, I eat cold cuts, I have iced tea with caffeine in it sometimes, and I even (gasp!) had a glass of wine a month ago so I'm not the best person to give my perspective on this

I've had fresh mozzarella several times. Most places serve/carry pasteurized fresh mozzarella.
